Mass production of rollable displays set for 2006

Early last month, Philips Polymer Vision, a business unit within Philips Technology Incubator, Royal Philips Electronics, revealed its Concept Readius rollable display at the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) in Berlin, Germany. The company claims Readius is the world's first prototype of a functional electronic-document reader that can unroll its display to a scale larger than the device itself. -

Cambridge researchers developing rollable displays

Univeristy of Cambridge researchers are developing new structures that can roll up without hinges or locks. The morphing structures could be used in future laptop screens, keyboards or even for reusable packaging. According to Dr. Keith Seffen of Cambridge's Department of Engineering, the structures won't need any advanced manufacturing or special materials.
