to me that part of case Velcro was already mounted on mixer. When I got back from trip, I examined contents of carton (was too rushed to get on plane earlier), and noticed paperwork between Shure and Markertek definitively showing this mixer had been repaired...

you need to mix several channels to an effect or a feed like a headphone mix, then you'll need a mixer. And you'll also need direct outputs to mix. Shure has a mixer that they developed out of the need for more headphone mixes for in-ear monitoring....
