TSMC: Semiconductor industry won't see stunning killer applications in next 5-10 years

The semiconductor industry is unlikely to see in the next 5-10 years stunning killer applications that can spark dramatic growth, but stable growth will be enabled by applications evolved from existing products, according to Kenneth Kin, senior vice president of worldwide marketing and sales of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). -

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) R&D senior vice president Shang-yi Chiang stated that the foundry has already started volume production of handset ICs on 65nm process node, and Chiang expects to see the sales contribution from its leading edge processes - including 90nm, 80nm and 65nm node - to exceed NT$60 billion in 2006. -
