Intel roadmap update - prototypes of first quad-core desktop processor built

Intel is pushing ahead its multi-core strategy and currently is working on at least 21 different processors, TG Daily has learned. Virtually all new Intel chips released between 2006 and 2008 will be based on mobile processor technology and will include the already taped out 65 nm quad-core desktop processor "Kentsfield" and the 45 nm eight-core "Yorkfield" chip. -
Intel Roadmap update #2: Flash cache coming to your notebook

In this second edition of our Intel roadmap update, we are focusing on Intel's mobile product lineup for 2007. Similar to the desktop, there aren't big processor plans, with the exception of slight Core 2 Duo T updates. The real news next year will be the Santa Rosa platform: Expect notebooks to run faster with flash cache and see new features such as integrated wireless broadband. -
Roadmap update: Intel aims for 5 hours of battery time in notebooks

Battery time in notebooks equipped with Intel's upcoming Merom processor is expected to make a significant in battery time: Sources suggest that many devices will break the five-hour barrier. The new microprocessor architecture will also appear in less power-hungry desktop CPUs and especially blade-server processors - including a 40W Xeon chip. -
Microsoft releases ten patches in its October security update

Microsoft has released its regular monthly security update and issued a wave of ten patches. Microsoft encountered problems with the initial distribution of the patch yesterday, but the sftware maker's security team was able to fix some problems that were widely publicized. -
McAfee anti-virus update flags hundreds of innocent files as virus

McAfee accidentally released update files for its anti-virus software that contained incorrect information for the W95/CTX virus. Users are reporting significant damage caused by the mistake - several hundred common files - such as excel.exe - were quarantined and deleted.

Latest Update On Intel's 1.13 GHz Pentium III

You certainly remember our negative experiences with the 1.13 GHz Pentium III processor that we received for reviewing four weeks ago. We concluded that Intel should consider the retraction of this chip. In a joint venture between us, HardOCP and AnandTech we found out that three different 1.13 GHz Pentium III samples were unable to pass our Linux kernel compilation test. Other instabilities were seen as well. It seems obvious that Intel's latest chip is indeed a flawed product. -
