Warner warms up to YouTube with media sharing agreement

Warner Music Group (WMG) and YouTube today announced a joint partnership in which Warner will distribute its copyrighted content through the increasingly popular video sharing site. Warner is the first company to announce support for YouTube's new "content identification and royalty reporting" system, which YouTube says will be generally available by the end of the year. -

YouTube is known for sharing videos, but in the future it could be sharing money with video producers. Chad Hurley, YouTube's Chief Executive has said that video makers could be compensated in the future. Hurley didn't give any more details nor did he get any more specific about the timeline. -

A recent Zogby poll showed that most Americans still like the regular evening news broadcast over citizen video news reports posted on YouTube. Citizen news reports are basically where a regular Joe records a news event with a small camcorder or even a cellphone camera. However in the 25 to 34 demographic, one out of four would watch citizen videos over regular broadcasts. -
