HAHAHHAA BALDUR'S Gate II RULES THEM ALL
. Best storyline, best feeling, and best rpg game ever. GOOD CHOICE
Lucky, if you picked Halo3 as the FPS title over Halo2, you would of been massacred for sure
Yeah I think Baldurs Gate 2 is the one sequel that rules all other sequels. You'd be hard press in fact to find anyone that bought BG1 and didn't buy BG2 I think. Wish Starcraft 2 were already out though, would probably take Warcraft 3 off the RTS best sequel if they do a good job at it. Now if you go a bit farther back in history with the RPG's I think the DarkSun Wake of the Ravager was a sequel that was better than the first game Darksun Shattered Lands. But, not many people know about it due to it's age, and the fact SSI wasn't hugely popular at the time.
Personally I would have leaned for Age of Empires 2 for the RTS, felt like it had another great layer of depth than Warcraft 3. I do also prefer realistic medieval over fantasy, so that probably plays a part in it.

Good call on HL2 though. It doesn't matter to me if it wasn't a quantum leap over the high bar of the original, it's still too good to be left out.
There is nothing better in gaming than when you break the shrink wrap on a sequel to one of your favorite games and find that it is even better than the original. I agree with Ben and Rob's list for the most part here. I especially agree with their choice of Half-Life 2, Warcraft III, Street Fighter 2, and Resident Evil 4.
I think Nintendo deserves special recognition as well when it comes to super sequels. I would nominate The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, and Metroid Prime as well. I played the original games, when they were new, and each of those sequels delivered in a big way.
It is amazing how the best sequels seem to stay true to the original games while also moving forward and changing, sometimes radically.
