New 8-drive Desktop Model Is Powered by a Dual-core 1.8GHz Intel® Atom CPU and Ships with New V3.3 NAS Management Software
Taipei, Taiwan, November 2010–QNAP Systems, Inc., a leading manufacturer of world class Network Attached Storage (NAS) servers today expanded its hugely popular Business Series Turbo NAS lineup with the addition of a new 8-drive desktop model, the TS-859 Pro+ Turbo NAS. The TS-859 Pro+ incorporates Intel’s new D-525 dual-core Atom CPU with 1.8GHz clock speed and 1GB RAM, which can achieve up to 116MB/s transfer rates (FTP/Samba reads) while maintaining guaranteed lower power consumption. The Turbo NAS provides up to 16TB of extremely large storage capacity (using 2TB hard drives and single disk volume/JBOD configuration), and is designed for business users who need a tower server to fit in their office environment for backup and sharing of enormous numbers of documents, digital pictures, videos, and applications.
The TS-859 Pro+ has been certified as compatible with NFS and iSCSI datastore, and is fully VMware Ready, Citrix compliant and Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V cluster compliant. QNAP continues its industry-leading iSCSI support for server clustering and virtualized environments including support for MC/S, MPIO, SPC-3, and thin provisioning. With built-in iSCSI initiator and target services, network storage can be virtually expanded by simply adding additional QNAP Turbo NAS units to the network and adding virtual volumes, up to 8 per device.
"Businesses users are looking to cut IT costs, be greener, and move more IT functions into the cloud," said Laurent Cheng, Product Manager of QNAP Systems, Inc. "With the release of an 8-drive desktop model, QNAP's complete business series lineup now includes the 2-drive TS-259 Pro+, 4-drive TS-459 Pro+, 5-drive TS-559 Pro+, 6-drive TS-659 Pro+, as well as the new 8-drive TS-859 Pro+ to help different types of business move to cloud computing environments with energy efficient QNAP Turbo NAS servers," Mr. Cheng added.
The new TS-859 Pro+ features a host of desirable features including support for 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch hard drives housed in lockable, hot-swappable drive carriers, RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 5+ hot spare, and 6+ hot spare with online RAID capacity expansion, online RAID level migration, and RAID recovery. The Turbo NAS offers a rich suite of business applications including the most comprehensive centralized backup available, website hosting, printer sharing, file server/sharing, and even video surveillance recording using network cameras. The capabilities of the Turbo NAS Pro+ units can be expanded with exclusive QPKG open-source developed for a variety of business applications including SQL database management, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and ecommerce.
