Horizontal orientation impossible?? Hyper 212 series on AMD

I've contacted CM Support but here's what they're trying to tell me.. Can anyone confirm this? I want to install it horizontally, my current setup is on vertical orientation. Please help AMD Geeks..

FROM CM SUPPORT:

Hi Adi,

I confirmed with our heat sink engineers, the ones who designed the entire Hyper 212 series and also the TPC series they said that AMD can only be installed in one direction for AMD sockets. The Hyper 212 Plus is the same and can also be installed in one direction, they said you might have been confused it with the V6 which uses a different bracket and it can be installed for both horizontal and vertical position for AMD.

I personally was confused when you said you can install the Hyper 212 Plus because I am a computer technician and I have installed many of these heat sinks and I remember Hyper 212 PLUS can only be installed in one position.

If you have any other questions please do contact us again. Have a wonderful day.

Come on man, that's all you have to say...? Can't be installed in any other way with 212+ and evo. Here's a link to prove you and your engineers wrong... http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/air-cooling/21525-coolermaster-hyper-212-plus-amd-installation-clearance.html And in that link you'll also see the curve I'm talking about with the old models compared to the 212x.

Nope because I've sent them pictures on what I've wanted to do. This is what I'm talking about. 212+ and EVO versus the new one 212X (which I have).

Now I am confused too. I thought you wanted to use it in a case where the motherboard lies flat, which would work fine. What exactly are you trying to do?

Edit: I see now. Yeah, its hit or miss whether or not a heatsink will let you turn it so that the fans point up and down. Most will not work that way, they just cant mount.

I guess you're misunderstanding me guys...... My current setup is that the fan is pointing downwards and blowing air out thru the roof. What I want to do is put it in sideways (horizontally). So that intake will be from right part, exhaust will be thru the rear of the case.

Just an update guys, I've installed it the way I want it to be (Horizontal, blowing air towards rear exhaust). But I used pliers instead of a screwdriver. Also, mounting it vertically, fan blowing towards roof of case, makes the fan sound weird in low speeds. It had this "boiling" sound. It was scary. haha Hope this helps others. Here's a pic to show you I'm not lying.

Don't worry, I didn't force anything. I screwed it about 5 turns using my strong fingers. lol

Oh. I get it now. You have your terms confused. The way you are describing it, and the way that you have it pictured it is mounted vertically - the length of the heatsink is orientated in a top-down fashion. If it were mounted horizontally, the length of the heatsink would be orientated in a side-to-side fashion.

Here is the documentation that says that the product *should* be able to support both directions of mounting: http://www.coolermaster.com/xresserver01-DLFILE-P1302200001ef9c-F1303100008e95c.html

And, yes, it does say the same, essentially, for the EVO and the Plus. (Part of me hopes the tech-support was lying to you when they said they confirmed with their engineers about this. Inversely, how wrong is it when you hope they lie about such a thing...?)

same problem here, im hitting the alum fin when im trying to ung the screwdriver, i have no choice but to install it with the fan blowing down, instead of side ways.
