4.0GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 220

Problem:
Started up the computer yesterday morning, Aero theme unavailable resulting in Classic Theme being default one. Desktop Window Manager Session Module not started on Services, neither is dwm.exe process in Task Manager. Basically I'm in over my head. Thought it was an easy fix but on further look, more issues have arose.

"Desktop window Manager Session Manager- Module missing or moved. System Error 126"

Aero Troubleshoot- no problems
Microsoft Fix It- Troubleshooting cannot continue because an error has occured

Tried to force enable Aero

• UseMachineCheck with Value 0
• Blur with Value 0
• Animations with Value 0

Ran the CMD- Net Stop uxsms
• "The Desktop Window Manager Session Manager Service is not stared
• More Help- NET HELPMSG 3521
• The *** service is not started"

Ran the CMD- Net Start uxsms
• The Desktop Window Manager Session Manager is Starting
• The Desktop Window Manager Session could not be started
• A system error has occured.
• System Error 126 has occured.
• The specified module could not be found.

Ran the CMD -sfc /scannow
• "Window Resource Protection could not start the repair service "
Then I tried to do a System Restore, Once logged back in
• "System Restore Failure - Windows Error 0x80070571"

Restarted the system.

On start up
• Windows Updates Reverting Changes back -Window Error 80080005

Used the Fix Problems with Windows Update tool:

I had originally did a ChkDsk- I was out of the room when it completed and it was on the User Log-in Screen with the Windows 7 theme still active

Tried:
• New user to see if Profile was corrupt- New user having the same issue
• Re-ran system assessment- rating being 5 (usual score)
• Though Processor & installed memory showing "unavailable"
• Norton Scan- No viruses/trojans or etc. Had for 3-4 years. No problems
• NVIDIA driver not updating, rolled back the driver and re-updated. Successful.
• Not Graphics issue. Running all gaming software to usual standard.
And tried right-clicking desktop and going through Personalisation, Aero themed are Gray/unavailable

Cheers for any responses!

Go into control panel, admin tools, services and make sure "Desktop Window Manager Session Manager" is set to automatic. It may be disabled. Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply!

It's in the lists, but it's not started. Once I start I get the error

"Windows could not start the desktop Window Manager Session Manager Service on Local Computer

Error 126: The Specified Module Could Not Be Found"
