My laptop screen is broken since a year, but I usually use an HDMI cord to output on a screen. When I open my computer, I can't see nothing on my TV until I reached the session pannel where I have to log In into Windows 7 with my password. So normally, I can't see nothing until I reach that part. When I reach the Log In pannel, the screen turn on and I can naviguate on my computer.

But this morning, it's like some page is blocking the access, maybe a update, a blue screen or something like that. My laptop is open, but I can see from the light that he hasn't reach the Log In pannel. The screen won't display the content and I've been waiting 1-2 hours with my computer On and nothing happen.

I'm not sure I'm explaining it well but basically, my screen is broken, but computer is fine, but there some page blocking me from entering the computer. I've tried everyting (Fn + F4, CTRL+alt+DLT, Escape, etc.) but it seems that i'm stuck on this page and my computer wont open normally.

I think it might be a update, but it is pretty darn long for a update.

Thank you very much, I really need to access this computer, I know it's working, no GPU or motherboard issue, it's something esle.

I'm not a total expert in this field, however one thing you could try is booting up to a boot disk (whether that be ubuntu, windows, etc) and see if the installation process is displayed on the external monitor. This would bypass any windows updates or such granted that your computer is set to boot first to the odd (most laptops come with this as a default in the BIOS)

Yes I tried, normally the HDMI or VGA output only appears on the screen when I reach the Windows Log In Pannel, or else it's always been a black screen. The signal starts when I'm in the Log In pannel.

But I can't reach the log In pannel, as if a page was blocking me, or a update. Is there any quick method start up with the keyboard, to reach directly to the Log IN Pannel or to connect to the computer fast?

Should I do this? how will I be able to choose the option with the arrow if I can't see it?

The Trusted F8 key method
1) Restart your computer if it is on.
2) Right before the system starts to boot, start tapping the F8 key continuously.
3) This should load the Windows Advanced Options boot menu.
4) Select a Safe Mode option based on your need using the arrow keys and press Enter.
5) Windows will start in Safe mode. To get out of Safe mode, simply restart your computer.

Forgot to say, it's the second time it's happening and I don't really remember how it got fixed but I think I just waited hours and hours...but I really need to access it now and I'm pretty sure there's a way to do it.

Is the F8 Method Startup seems like a good option or is it risky since I won't be able to see what option do I choose.

Hi, I have the exact same problem. My laptop a Dell Inspiron N5110 has had a broken screen for a year and normally I connect to the TV via a HDMI cable, but the screen on the TV is blank? This has happened before; most likely in the case of an update and corrected the next morning. Now my TV will not display my Laptop is on but there is "no signal" I have tried VGA and a different HDMI cable as well as a different TV. The display has been like this for over a week now. I am a college student and need access to my laptop ASAP I have tried a multitude of different methods I don't have enough money to replace the screen. I never though about it as the TV has worked perfectly since. I have attempted to turn off and on again and everything that my friends have said (Fn + F4, Ctrl + Alt + Del) this is incredibly annoying and I profess my angst for a brief fix or a simple way to fix this hopefully for free. Thank you

Regards,
Rikesh

** This is a copied and pasted post I wrote from a strikingly similar issue in the forums so in case you happen across this one and not the other, you wont miss out on at least, what worked for myself in this maddening debacle **

So Ive been looking all over for the answer to this exact issue and pretty every thread, or at least everyone of them that i "new tabbed" never seemed to get passed the diagnosis phase. So I had the exact same issue, running a Windows Media Laptop with a Win 7 64bit OS. If I connected the Laptop through HDMI or VGA, my laptop screen would go blank and it would go into some kind of "comatose" mode where it stayed on, yet the keys became unresponsive, so I wasnt able to do the Win+P shortcut to try and guess the display settings, and believe me, how I tried... on top of going through recovery options, safe mode, hot keys, all the way to my Measure and Click, which felt as ridiculous attempting as it is typing.

So this may not be a solution to everyone having this problem, but it turned out to be a really obscure solutions that made some sort of sense after the fact, and resulted in emotions ripe with hot fury. Alright I'm rambling, anyways, at one point my dad gave me a 20" hp monitor that he had no use for and since I had envisioned an unrealistic Mega Monitor Collage situation for a room that finally had room enough to accomplish it... least in theory. So the monitor has two inputs, VGA, and DVI which I've honestly never used, but all my VGA cords were in use and I just so happened to have an HDMI to DVI converter cord which worked as advertised, and for a month or so period of time I used the monitor as an extended display to my laptop. Now the 20" monitors prize setting is 1600 x 900 which to be honest until I plugged it in, was not aware that particular resolution at all existed. My laptop was set to its typical 1280 x 800 which the 20" grudgingly accepted with some loss of overall display surface area, but not enough to grind my gears, plus the display was pretty crystal clear. Fast forward a couple months later, I ended up using my laptop at work pretty frequently and sort of just stopped connecting it to the monitor. Another month or two passes and I end up moving rooms and Mr.20" HP 16 by 9 gets stacked with some other clutter which my rampant ADD forgot all about. At some point my laptop returns to room use and I plug it into different tv/monitors through VGA and HDMI with blank screens, "no display founds", and a repeatedly frozen laptop. The frustrating thing was the windows logo would come up, and after that, nothing. I was looking for a different cord and came across the DVI to HDMI one, which hadnt even crossed my mind to use and to be honest I may have forgot I had because seriously.... I got the A.D.Deez somethin fierce. I plug the thing into the laptop, and it starts up no problem, except I happened to notice that my laptop resolution settings had defaulted to 1600 x 900 upon connecting to another device which probably gave it the same reaction as I had when I saw it for the first time. I had messed with profiles, bios settings even though there wasnt much for me to mess with, safe mode scouring, hertz tampering, display setting overhaul, power settings tampering, monitor and tv resets, graphics drivers reinstallations, among other equally ridiculous trials and tribulations, and the problem almost fixed itself, or at least a solution presented itself by plugging in a single friggin display adapter cord. So if you end with this problem, and it really does suck because you can't see a friggin thing anywhere, nor are you able to alter settings within the necessary pc modes to do so, try thinkin a little obscure and outside the box, because the issue is most likely something you havent even considered yet. Im just glad I still have that adapter, because I do recall at one point attempting to connect the laptop to it through VGA with no dice. Anyways, god speed, good luck, and no this post has not been editted for grammar, spelling, incoherency, or any variation of the ramblins. I can't explain things and keep em short, somehow it just makes more sense in story mode. <3

Hey! I found a method that may also work for you. I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3558 Laptop with a broken display but all I did was connect the laptop to a secondary monitor and hit the power button then pressed FN + F8 and my secondary display was working from the bios! Try this out for yourself
