Hello all, ill be brief on this one. So my house is a two story house, my computer room is where my modem, wireless router, and file server are located. My entire house networking system is based off of a Netgear router. However my problem is that my room on the other side of the house gets terrible WIFI reception. My X-box and computer get terrible internet speeds. Now from research I have seen that you cannot have two DSL modems in your house. I have a spare Netgear router and my question is if I can somehow receive the signal on the router and boost is up? I will post more information on routers if necessary. Thank you

Your best solution is to run a cable as far as you can toward the area you get poor reception and put the second router in as a AP. All routers can run as AP, there is a sticky on top of this forum.

If you were really to need to run this as a wireless repeater you need to place it where it gets good signal and then can retransmit the signal to the room that has poor signal. At the very minimum you are going to lose 1/2 your speed. Repeaters tend to be very finicky to both get setup and to keep stable. You should only do it if there is no other way to accomplish your goal

If your router is compatible with dd-wrt or tomato, you could install one of those as a firmware, and set the second router up to behave as a wireless repeater. There are risks (you could brick the second router if you make a mistake), but there are plenty of tutorials on installing those firmwares and setting them up as repeaters.
