I have a mic I need to plug into the REAR mic jack but the only choice shown in Windows 7 is "Front panel 3.5 mm jack"

How do I change microphone input from the default "Front Panel" jack to the REAR microphone jack in Windows 7?

According to the following link, you should ensure you have the correct and updated drivers for the audio interface. Note that this concerns the headphone jack but the same should be true for the microphone and input jacks.

If running through the options in the above thread won't work, not sure how to accomplish this in Windows other than having the correct audio device drivers or some software. Possibly working in the motherboard BIOS settings. But I believe you may need to physically remove the cable that connects the front panel microphone jack to the motherboard. You would do this while the computer has been powered off for at least 5 minutes, but still plugged into the wall outlet.

If the driver thing doesn't work, come back with your computer or motherboard model if you'd feel comfortable opening your computer case and poke around in there.
