DNS Server not Responding

I recently picked up a powerline kit as I'm having spotty wifi issues on the top floor (3 storey house). The powerline kit I purchased is: Trendnet TEL-406E 500Mbps compact kit.

Long story short, I've been working on getting this fixed for over 4 hours. It works just fine on my lenovo laptop, but isn't working on my desktop PC.

What is wrong?
My computer is able to send messages to the router, but the router doesn't seem to be replying. Messages are going to the DNS server (Tracert command is reporting completion) but all my ping requests time out leading me to believe that the DNS server is not responding.

What did I try?
I tried DNSFlush and the register commands.
I tried manually changing the DNS server IPv4 settings to match my router's.
I tried manually changing the DNS server IPv4 settings to Google's open DNS.
I tried manually changing the DNS server IPv4 settings to OpenDNS' DNS
I tried ipconfig /release and ipconflig /renew
I tried disabling IPv6
I tried downloading and installing new lan drivers
I tried uninstalling the device and letting Windows find it
DHCP is enabled.
I tried reserving an IP through my router's settings JUST for the desktop
I tried resetting, syncing, and moving the powerline adapters. They work fine on my laptops.
I tried connecting to websites using their IP addresses. No dice.

The network and sharing center signals that I am connected to the internet. I believe I can SEND packets, but can't receive as it's getting lost at the router or just disappearing.

I've called my ISP and they reset all leases and ip connections. Should have given me a fresh slate to work off of, but no dice.

I'm on Windows 7.

Is there some setting I'm missing!?

Please copy and paste ipconfig /all

You could have a hidden enabled driver (like microsoft virtual wifi), or one of the other drivers could have a faulty dns setting.

Have you tried dissabling firewall?

Might dissable any static IP setttings for the desktop at the router and then set the desktop IP to something completely different in the IPV4 properties of your lan adapter.

Can't seem to find any hidden network drivers. Only Realtek [Ethernet] and Gigabyte [Wifi]. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong area? I guess ipconfig /all should show you (but looks like it is just Realtek and Gigabyte :3

Firewall has been disabled [Avast!]

I tried that last bit. I don't think the router recognized the computer at all.

Try disabling any static address you have setup at the router for the desktop, and then statically set a different IP (thats not in your routers dhcp range) in the IPV4 properties.

You can see hidden adapters by going to device manager, view, show hidden devices.
Go ahead and try disabling the microsoft virtual wifi miniport and see if that helps.

Neither alternative worked.

I saw a list of hidden adapters, disabled them all, but the problem continued.

I set the router's limit up to 192.168.2.100 and changed my computer's IP to 192.168.2.254. That didn't work either..

Initially, I got a "DHCP is not enabled for "Local Area Connection" error [to be clear, I couldn't connect to the internet at this time]:

I received the following prompt for fix:

I applied the fix, but received the same troubleshooter message alongside a new message, "Lan has invalid IP configuration"

*update*I tried this with a different IP on my computer's side. I released and renewed my Ip and then manually re-entered an IP. I'm getting "DNS Server Not Responding" error.

Any more ideas? :s

If that still does not work then try booting into safe mode with networking and see if it works, if it does then it is a security program issue.

When you said DNS flush commands did you do this sequence (with command prompt elevated to admin privleges):

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.tx

netsh winsock reset

ipconfig /flushdns

Then reboot

I tried #5, but the problem still occurs.

Every time I try to log into safe mode, my computer hangs until I force-restart it. To test the security software, I uninstalled it completely. However, problem remains.

I never tried it in that order until your message. I ran the commands in that sequence, but the problem still persists.

This is driving me mad! I just confirmed that the powerlines are working with another laptop on the same circuit.

So here's something extremely interesting..

I managed to get into safe mode, and at first glance, everything was the same - - not working.

I started clicking random bookmarks on my bookmark bar and noticed that my work page loaded. Nothing else did however (which is why I'm extremely confused).

I turned back to normal mode and tried loading the same page. It worked! The one page loads, but I can't seem to get anything else opened (not even my router's settings at 192.168.2.1).

Any reason why only one page loads? The only one I can come up with is that the page is cached.

*edit* the Web page does look to be cached. I cleared history and cache, the Web page no longer loads.

So after determining that even in safe mode I don't have a connection, what's your next suggestion?

Skype contacts are reporting that I am constantly appearing online and offline. Looking at my Skype, I see it holding a connection for a few seconds, and then reaching a disconnected status. It is never online long enough to transmit a message ("loading circle" when I submit a message to a contact until I disconnect entirely from the wired connection and enable wireless).

I'm quite unsure what the forum rule are with regards to running and posting results from analysis software created by another forum.

You might want to look at the IPv4 and IPv6 route tables in the log above. I'm not too sure what to make of them. Maybe something suspicious lays there?

What about the winsock entries?

Under "DEVICES" in the log, Traces of Avast still remain, although I used the official complete AVAST! Uninstaller to remove the Antivirus. Could this be the culprit?

Excuse the bumps, but I didn't want to make my previous message even longer.

I borrowed a network (ethernet) adapter from my brother and for some reason, it works without a hitch. Would this be a hardware issue? I'm fairly certain this has more to do with a setting than with the actual port itself.

I have to return the Ethernet adapter to him eventually, so I would appreciate it if we can figure out why one works while the other doesn't :O

Maybe it is just a lost cause.. I don't mind purchasing a new adapter if need be =]

It would have to be either a driver or a hardware issue then.

You can try downloading the ethernet driver (maybee even the one before the newest one), and download revo uninstaller and run it to try to clear all of the driver/software out for the ethernet adapter, and then install the "new" driver.

Otherwise I would get a PCI-e gigabit network adapter.
