my computer randomly crashes then restarts, i just recently brought it back to life with a new power supply, hard drive and windows 8 (i was on xp when my power supply went down 2 years ago) I've checked updates in my settings and they are set to automatically update

Crashes can damage files as well as your boards & HDD. Check the HDD for errors and if its ok the restore your last known stable backup.
If you dont have a backup then try running system file checker.
