I made a thread a while ago about my PC freezing randomly and after somw troubleshooting im still having the same problem and have no idea what to try next. When my PC freezes the monitor is just stuck on the "last frame" and all of the audio that was playing is cut off. I never get a BSOD so I have to hold down the power button to manually reboot the PC. The freezing can happen anywhere from once a week up to 5 times a day. After rebooting the PC I always have the same 3 events in event viewer(6008, 41, 1101).

The troubleshooting steps I have tried so far are as follows:
- Re installed Win 8.1 64-Bit
- Replaced motherboard with RMA
- Replaced PSU with RMA
- Ran both dskchk and seatools on HDD (both passed)
- Ran both Intel Processor Diagnostic and Prime95 on CPU (both passed)
- Ran both Memtest86+ and Windows memory diagnostic (both passed)

My specs are:
OS - Windows 8.1 64-Bit
CPU - Intel i5 3570K
RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600
Motherboard - ASUS P8Z77-V LK (LGA1155)
GPU - EVGA GTX 760 4GB
PSU - Corsair CX750M 750W
HDD - Seagate ST2000DM001 2TB 7200RPM
Optical Drive - Samsung DVD Burner SH-224DB/BEBE
Network - Netgear WNDA3100v2 N600
Peripherals - Logitech G430 Headset
- Corsair M60 Mouse
- SteelSeries Apex Keyboard
- HP L2445m Monitor

Any and all help/suggestions is greatly appreciated. If you would like anymore information please feel free to ask.

Download HWInfo and run Sensors for 5 mins. Post the results - usually 3 screenshots in TinyPic or similar. This'll show clocks, fan rpm, voltages etc to get an idea of how your hardware is running.

Do a Checkdisk with Repair and run a virus scan (eg Avast, Malwarebytes) just to do a quick software and disk check.

- make sure your BIOS is updated
- disable any sound sources that your are not using. ie use control panel device manager to disable any high def sound that you don't have a speaker connected to. (the one in your video card, if not getting sound via a HDMI or displayport interface)
-disable any overclocking, remove overclocking driver for the video card if you have it, you might even want to underclock your video card if it is a overclocked version.

if you still have the problem:
google on how to force a memory dump from keyboard, make registry changes.
run verifier.exe and set global debugging flags (looking for deadlocks)
set your memory .dmp type from minidump to a full memory dump and reboot.

here is info on setting up verifier.exe
http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/65331-using-driver-verifier-identify-issues-drivers.html

note: verifier will set flags to force windows to check for common device driver problems and it will force a bugcheck and memory dump if it detects one of these issues. if your system hangs and does not bugcheck, it will most likely be deadlocked waiting in a thread in the graphics driver. You would then use the keyboard to force the bugcheck and memory dump. then post the (very large) memory dump on a cloud server and someone with a debugger can tell you what the problem is. (maybe)
note: if you don't do a full memory dump or kernel memory dump the debug info will not be recorded to the memory .dmp file

Everything looked fine -

CPU running cool (38C) with good voltage (1.16V) and clocks (4.22GHz)

PSU voltages are fine

GPU also running cool with good clocks.

Next - try another monitor. (What make and model is your current monitor?). Try another monitor cable.
Run a Virus Scan (eg Avast, Malwarebytes)
Go into Control Panel, Device manager and make sure every device is running properly and that its drivers are up to date.
Then - try another GPU. Try your GPU in another PC.

I'm currently running the PC with the verifier.exe settings that johnbl linked to. After I get another freeze and use my keyboard to force a crash dump I will upload the dump file, then i'll try swapping out my GPU for a 9800 GT and changing my monitor. My current monitor is a HP L2445m and im using a VGA connection with a DVI adapter on one end. I will switch to a old Sharp LL172C-B monitor and use a different VGA cable. I have already ran virus scans with Avast, Microsoft Security, and Malwarebytes. All of the devices in device manager seem to be working fine and none of them have warnings.

So I just had another freeze and I tried to use the Ctrl + Scrl Lock (x2) keyboard shortcut to crash the PC but nothing happened because the computer was completely unresponsive to my input. I tried using the shortcut when I first set it up and the computer crashed as it was supposed to. After rebooting from the freeze I still dont have any dump files and I have no other event logs other than 41, 6008, and 1101. I will try to change out my GPU tomorrow morning and see if I have any further freezing.

Well I changed the GTX 760 to a 9800 GT that my buddy lent to me and swapped out the monitors. Unfortunately I just got another freeze, but the weird thing is that the event 6008 says "The previous system shutdown at 12:07:35 AM on ‎1/‎1/‎2015 was unexpected." which is strange because the freeze happened at around 12:43 AM.

I am another who is having the same problem with the same mobo/CPU/RAM combo as the original poster. I've already RMA'd the mobo, swapped out all drives, tried a new PSU, graphics card, network card, updated all drivers/BIOS, reinstalled Win8.1 several times.

In my case these freezes are triggered by recording TV (my system is an HTPC) but also happened predictably when trying to transfer high amounts of data to an external ethernet backup drive.

Has anyone found any fixes to this? I'm about to RAM a second time but am also escalating this with ASUS support as my warranty expires in early 2016. :(

I finally fixed my issue about a month ago by ordering a new MOBO and CPU. I'm still not 100% sure which part was the one that failed on me. I never got the chance to test my build with a different CPU and I'm not 100% confident that ASUS was correct in saying that my board didn't have a defect when i sent it in for RMA. The only advice I can give to people that are having the same issue is to rule out any software issues and then begin testing/replacing your parts one by one. Unfortunately its not always easy to find replacement parts to test with especially finding a spare MOBO or CPU with the correct socket type.
