Windows 10 hard disk drives missing in File Explorer

My Windows 10 installation is not displaying all Hard Drives in File Explorer. I originally thought that it might be faulty wiring or connections. However I can not see a Seagate Expansion drive connected via a USB on a machine with four installed disk drives.

However if I move the expansion drive to the USB port of a Win 10 machine with two installed drives and another USB drive it displays as it it should. Any suggestions, please?

I too have a Seagate Expansion USB 3.0 drive. It likes to vanish and reappear under Windows 10. Perhaps we have a similar USB controller. What kind of motherboard do you have?

EDIT: Try plugging it into a USB 2 slot (if you have any) and see what happens...

In device manager, one of my USB 3 controllers appears as "Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0 (Microsoft)" and that's the one that my Seagate drive shows up under (when it shows up, that is). Do you see a similar controller in Device Manager?

OK, some points to be made. Firstly, unplug the drive from the hub and jack it directly into ytour motherboard's USB port. Try to keep things as simple as possible.

Second point. This is a Microsoft driver, not an Intel or Gigabyte (or Asus in my case) driver. You may have to wait for Intel/Gigabyte to release a Windows 10 driver. Alternatively, (and this is at YOUR OWN RISK) you could try installing a Win7/8 driver for the USB 3 controller. I have no idea if it would work or not. I have installed previous OS drivers on then current Windows before, but I have no idea if it would work in this specific scenario or possibly render your system unbootable.

The Intel USB 3 drivers are here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=USB

TL;DR Try removing the USB hub from the situation. Try disabling USB 3 in BIOS, if such an option exists. You can try installing a USB driver from a previous version of Windows, but it might cause serious problems.

EDIT (try this before loading old Windows drivers): You can also try installing the Win10 Intel chipset drivers from here:

Many thanks for your advice, it is much appreciated. I think I will take the "low risk" option and wait for the Win 10 driver from Intel/Gigabyte. My need is not urgent.

Another fairly low risk option would be to disable USB 3 in BIOS/UEFI. I seem to have accomplished that by disabling "Intel eXCI Mode" in my BIOS. The Intel eXtensible...whatever driver is no longer loaded. I'll see if my drive disconnects/reconnects any more. But I'll probably have to live with USB 2 transfer speeds.
