Hi guys,
I would like to buy a legal windows 7 copy online, but I really don't know where I can safely buy a license. On ebay I found some copies for just 20€ or so, and I also found some for 150€. In stores I only found OEM versions for around 100€. The difference in price just makes me very confused I don't know what's the best choice. So can anyone help me buy a windows 7 home premium 64bit license key online, legally and cheap?

1. One of the best places to but inexpensive legal copies of windows is on campus. MS offers significant "student" discounts. As I recall, my kids bought theirs for $15-$25

2. I would suggest buying only from vendors in your country of origin. You have little legal recourse if anything goes awry outside your own borders.

Just because the keys you purchased so far have not been deactivated, doesn't make it legal. I don't know about your Steam stuff, but the Microsoft keys are not legal.

When the price is too good to be true, it usually is.

OEM is around 100€
Retail is around 150€

anything too cheap is questionable.

Why would buying keys online be illegal? They are just reselling them like a normal store just without the disks.

E: I can only say that i never had any problems with any key i bought on that site. Even with keys for games i bought over a year ago. A friend of mine bought some stuff there too and hadnt any problems either.
Would also be new to me that key websites are illegal.
Some may be not reputable but this one seems to be as far my expirience goes.

Because gullible people believe it legal.

Buying keys online isn't necessarily illegal. I'm just saying those Windows keys for $14 are not legit. Lots of those sites exsist, and they are not legal, and any Micosoft key purchased through there could be deactivated at any time by Microsoft.

It's not .... but buying from companies based in foreign countries that have no reciprocal trade agreements with the one you live in is a pretty sure sign that laws are being skirted.

Well if there's only 5, then I'm in trouble.... newegg isn't listed :)

I don't know ?/ all I do is get the genuine hard copy from a known dealer like new egg - I get the disk and the key

thing is are you still able to download windows 7 from Microsoft ?? support stopped a few months ago ?? and the way there desperate to got you over to 10 I just don't see trusting any thing out side of that [genuine retail hard copy]

on the windows website I only found discounts for Surface, Office, Xbox, Phones, Computers and Accessories but no discount for windows specifically. But if this is actually true, that it is possible to get win 7 for 15-25$ legally, then I would really like to use that opportunity.

It most certainly is legal and two of my sons did just that. If there is still any doubt

Both have since graduated so I don't know what offers are still on the table. At the time, they were pretty hard to find on the web site, I guess MS didn't want all of us posing as students and running down to the college store :) As I recall, the deal ran for two months (Son No. 1 got Pro) ... was pulled and then ran again (Son No. 2 bought his).

Skip the web and inquire among friends attending local universities and see if an offer is currently running.

What those sites and sellers on ebay sell as Windows 7 licenses are NOT the same thing as the student pricing MS had for Windows 7. What those sellers sell are likely OEM keys from sides of computers that are not allowed to be re-used on other systems. I think even the OEM sellers pay more than $15 for their licenses. I don't remember the exact number and I'm sure the cost varies from manufacturer based on what deal they have with MS, but I do remember that the price was maybe 1/2 of the to the consumer OEM cost which is about $90 for Windows 7.

That link is from 2009, MS no longer sells Windows 7 licenses directly.

I didn't suggest that they were. In fact I specifically poo poo'd the idea of buying on illegitimate sites and report to mods any posting I see of such.

What I said was

1. It is possible to buy Windows legitimately for those prices. I have done it twice and both licenses are still in use.

.

2. I also didn't suggest buying it from MS, I suggested buying it on campus. I also said the web site didn't have it at the time we bought, the campus store did and had it long after the MS site deal expired.
