I was curious, motherboards like the Asus X99 Sabertooth have both an 8 pin and a 4 pin power plug for the CPU. However, what should you do if your power supply only provides one plug for the CPU (an 8 Pin)?

For example, I was thinking of picking up the: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010HWDPKW?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_2&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER , its 650W, its Platinum, it was listed as a tier 1 power supply somewhere on the forums. However, it only comes with 1 8 pin. Say you wanted to add the extra 4 pin for overclocking potential, what then? I read somewhere else that converting a molex into the 4 pin connection was a bad idea. Is there no way to convert the spare VGA power plug into a 4 plug?

The next tier up, the 750 Platinum, is 50% more in cost. It doesn't seem like something worth getting in contrast to the 650.

How much Overclocking can be done with just the 8 plugged in? What do you consider extreme?

And if I wanted to do extreme, but had the 650W Platinum Power Supply?

Ok, so you say I should get a power Supply with 2 CPU power plugs if I wanted to do the extreme. How much of a difference am I looking at here then when it comes to overclock vs extreme overclock?

Ok, I understand not to use a molex to 4 pin CPU adapter, especially with regard to the overclock power port.

How much overclocking can I achieve with the 8 pin alone? I am trying to use an 5820k, but not to a crazy degree that it dies rapidly. But pushing it a little bit may be a good idea.

Last question, if I purchase the 650 and 750 Platinum EVGA PSU's, I can mix their cables up without a problem? I am thinking of gutting the 750W in my computer and taking the 650W and giving the 750W to them. Same Brand Line.
