Ive read several post here and elsewhere, and it has not fixed my issue. The svchost.exe netsvcs is running my cpu at 50% or higher when idle. Ive ran several scans in safe mode, cleared my event logs, my windows updates have been turned off or prompt to install. Any other ideas would be helpful
Thanks

Ya you have a virus, I had the same one. Malwarebytes detects it nok problem. At first I thought it was windows 10 but its just a smart virus pretending to be windows software. AVG and windows defender didnt detect anything.

For me nigh svchost was ms updater. #5 fixed it for me but disabling a few services in total worked.

It's not malware or virus but it's a bug in windows update service , which causes high CPU usage or high Memory usage by svchost.exe.Try this : http://abopc.blogspot.com/2016/05/windows-update-memory-leaksolved.html It''s the latest solution, MS released the permanent fix in march 2016.Also DO NOT diasble services or processes permanently as other sites claimed.Disabling will solve your problem temporarily but you will loose functionality and Security, you will be vulnerable to many viruses and other problems.

Hi Rampur, There are those maybe like me who believe MS's updates are potentially MORE dangerous by far than any zero day or virus suseptability one might have with updates turned off. BTW how is it that so many win7 systems have been forced updated to win10? Via a MS update?

As computer users we have to decide for ourselves which is more dangerous, allowing MS to force damage and hell upon our computers or hackers? It's my view that MS is the most dangerous villian on the internet with open access to most folk's computers. Think about that?

The system of taking all updates only works if the sender is "virtuous".

@curt504 Sorry to reply late.....
Yes MS updates are dangerous and are to benefit MS only, specially the so frequent security updates which are pushed to secure MS not users. With windows 10 MS is literally ripping clothes of its customers. You can use Linux distros like Ubuntu, Linux Mint etc. they are somewhat less polished but they are improving rapidly. These distros will take care of your privacy and will give you value for your money(it's FREE). Some Drawbacks : Can't play all famous Game titles. But do try them, you can also use them without installing(called LiveCD or LiveUSB)

Windows Update is not the problem. Malware is not the problem. Windows Update Service is not part of the netsvcs Service Group. (Malwarebytes does not find any problems either.)

I have the same problem. I read here that clearing the Event log may help. This is more logical to me because the netsvcs Service Group contains the SENS (System Event Notification Service). My Windows installation is quite old (2008) and I keep detailed firewall logs. So, in short, my Event logs are very large. (I cleared them and I will post back if this fixed my problem.)

Other considerations:
Due to the nature of the Services, it is either a Windows shell problem or a networking problem. Unfortunately the services are essential so they cannot be disabled and tested one-by-one.

netsvcs group contains:

  • Browser
    IKEEXT
    Winmgmt
    LanmanServer
    EapHost
    Themes
    SENS
    ProfSvc
    Schedule
