Today a new drive named "SYSTEM_DRV(f) has appeared, and I dont know why. I have not installed anything new on my pc, such as an OS as others have suggested. I cant access the drive even as administrator, and it says I need to do something with security settings, but I've tried and cant find a way to do that.

Are you all sure its not one of the normal win8/10 partitions that are normally not assigned a drive letter? Whats your disk management show for the partitions? You probably just need to unassign the drive letter to it in diskmgmt.

Your not the only one, i also have SYSTEM_DRV (F:) appearing on my computer, and it appeared the same time you got it (August 9, 2016).
Which means this is part of the latest windows update, not sure what you and i can do.

It must be a mistake / accident when Microsoft sent the latest update to everyone's computers.
Or maybe it's intentional, in case any computer geek wants to easily manage the drive.

Same problem here. I have a Lenovo laptop on Windows 10 but think that is just a coincidence. I have just run System Restore from the Windows Update point and it appears to have solved the problem and the mystery SYSTEM_DRV (F:) has gone.

If I run the Windows Update again and it come back, then it would seem that it was defiantly down to MS.

Update 12/08/16 - 23:17 hours: Sad to report that the mystery F Drive has returned. Can only deduce that Windows has updated again!

Same here, appeared today after the last Windows (8.1, x64) update/restart. It's named "SYSTEM (F:)", is a FAT32 local disk, has a total capacity of 96MB, and my access to it is denied. Of course it then asks me to "use the Security tab" in order to be able to access it, but there is no Security tab in the disk's properties.

I checked diskmgmt popatim, and none of my partitions are assigned to F. This disk doesn't appear at all.

So yeah? x) I don't have enough knowledge and time today to try anything else. I'm glad I found this thread and it seems I'm not the only one having this issue (if it actually is one). Hope it gets updated.

Update (Tu 16/08/16): it is most probable it was indeed caused directly by the Win update, because after the latest I just completed, it's gone.
