Hello all I finally got my hands on a ssd for my desktop pc it's a Samsung evo 250 gb ssd I currently have a Samsung 2tb hdd in my computer now it holds my os my games my steam account my u play account. Now my question is i want my windows is on the ssd to allow my system to move faster but I want to know how can I make the ssd work for me better for downloading games faster.

Solution

OK!
146GB consumed space into a 250GB drive.

Should be no problem.

The basic concept is...
1. Clone to the new drive
2. Reconnect the old drive, and wipe the old drive completely. All partitions. Not just format...actually delete those partitions.
3. Use the old drive as needed. Extra games, whatever.

Starting here:
Specific steps for a successful clone operation:
-----------------------------
Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or...
"downloading games faster." This is dependent on your internet speed, not HDD speed. If you're talking about loading your game(starting), then the game would need to be installed on the SSD. You should be able to create a Steam folder(Library) on your SSD, and move games between Steam Libraries from within Steam

Ok i was not sure about download speed if it made a difference with a ssd. I would like to have fast load times and so on it am new to the whole pc world and not familiar with everything

To achieve this, you need to either reinstall everything to the new drive OR perform a migration in Samsung magician.

You can't clone(migrate) the HDD to the SSD(not enough space on the SSD).
You'll need to do a complete install of the OS to the SSD(make sure the HDD is disconnected during this). After the install, do updates, re-connect the HDD, install Steam and connect your library on the HDD.

1. That's not "mirror", that's migration.

2. Starting from a 2TB HDD with a bunch of games...a 250BG SSD is almost certainly too small to migrate everything.
And you (mostly) can't pick and choose.

I tried to clone my hdd but it's 88 gb over the 250gb ssd but I have 2 games that are a timed trail which I can delete to free up space. But if the ssd and hdd both have windows on it won't they make a problem for each other

My original plan was to have a 250gb ssd for Windows and some other items and have the 2tb hdd for all my games that I play so how can I achieve this end with the current topic. I do have a windows 10 pro 64 bit key just laying around and my hdd has windows 10 home 64 bit.

If you can get your current actual used space to below 200GB, you can clone everything.
Is that a possibility? If so, we can go forward with that.

Otherwise, other procedures follow.

Specific steps for a successful clone operation:
-----------------------------
Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
This is to allow the system to try to boot from ONLY the SSD
Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe as necessary.
Delete the 450MB Recovery Partition, here:
