Will my secondary rig work for streaming?

Hey guys, I've been streaming for quite a while now and finally obtained Twitch affiliate status. I decided to finally cash in on donation and build a separate rig to stream from for maximum quality.

I already started building another computer a few months ago, but pretty much forgot about it. This is currently what i have for a build going and wanted to get some opinions as to if this will work alright for streaming only.

GPU - GTX 750 2gb
PSU 500w
8GB RAM
AMD FX 8-Core Black Edition FX-8350
250gb ssd
5tb external hd
windows 10p
elgato capture card

From what i heard, GPU doesn't matter much, and i hope that is true because i went super cheap on gpu. I am still waiting on the Processor/capture card to get here. Either way, i started this build a while ago originally to give to my little cousin that doesn't have a computer. So if this does not sound too good for streaming only then i will probably be handing it off to him and financing another beast. Let me know if i need something else.

My understanding is that the GPU you have (GTX 750) includes hardware encoding (nvenc) which can be used by streaming software such as OBS to encode the incoming video from the capture card to H264 with minimal usage of the CPU. Possibly people say GPU doesn't matter because all modern video cards include hardware encoding - Nvidia has since 2012.

Haha, the kids got a PS4 but prefers gaming on PC and i cant blame him. BUT i would love to avoid another PC loan as i just finished paying my last one off. So if this rig works decent enough for streaming only, that would be great

Yes, this PC will encode well. It has the necessary horsepower in both CPU and GPU. If you wanted to use GPU encoding the 750 is limited compared to newer hardware so quality might not be as high as CPU encoding. Speaking of, CPU video encoding is where this system will shine. It has nothing to do but put all its resources into encoding and should produce quality video.

How exactly would i go about utilizing the two? You say GPU encoding, and CPU encoding. Is there a way to utilize one or the other with OBS, or do you just mean its week for GPU processes and stronger for CPU processes?

It is in the settings on OBS when you set up the stream... I think. If not it is buried in the settings somewhere.

Well, there are multiple formats that you can encode in, and while NVENC allows for the GPU to encode, it doesn't allow all formats and some formats are better than others but there are always trade offs. I'm afraid I'm not too knowledgeable about specific codecs.

Using CPU encoding allows you to choose pretty much any video format you want, and generally works well as long as you have the CPU power to do it.

Your 750 has NVENC, which is a hardware encoder, and it works well on a few formats. It is there to take the load off of the CPU and generally people only use it if they need to. You can use it but I'm not sure if you should if you have a whole system dedicated to encoding. Generally the CPU should do a better job.
