Overclocking 1600>1866. Worthwhile or hazardous?

Answer to the question in my title is obviously subject to my hardware, so:

Motherboard: MSI 760 GMA-P34(FX)
CPU: FX-6300
Memory: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231568
PSU: Corsair CX430
GPU: MSI GTX 950

By default, this motherboard is configured to run memory at 1333 but easily handles the baseline 1600 of the Ripjaws. Would there be any performance improvement by overclocking from 1600 to 1866 (the maximum rate my motherboard will allow) to squeeze some extra FPS in CPU-intensive games?

I'm well aware that this motherboard is old, that the FX series is dead, that the 950 is better off being replaced by a 1060, etc. This was an overpriced budget build from ScamPowerPC that I intend to upgrade or ditch altogether. In the meantime, I'd like to do what I can to improve performance without purchasing new hardware or overclocking the processor on a board that would likely melt the second I do.

All jests aside, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for that link. Disappointing to read that the difference would be negligible.

Overclocking the GPU really isn't an option. This thing is unstable at even a 1% increase. No clue why. Perhaps just faulty design by MSI.

What app do you use to OC your 950?

Yeah. Maximum allowed is 116% and I've tried every setting between default 100% to 116%.

Might just be the card itself or it could be an issue with the motherboard. Not really certain.

To be honest, even if I could find a way to overclock the card, it'd probably be a terrible idea since it sits at about 70C under load. I can only imagine the temps it'd reach while OC'ed.

Yip, maybe you did not get the silicone lottery :??:

Good luck!
