Hello, I would like to make the title a little more specific, the problems are only on open world games with a large map. So my PC specifications are a GTX 1060 (3GB) Ryzen 5 1600 two 8gb ram sticks a B350M PRO-VDH motherboard and an 1TB toshiba HDD (dont remember exact model) so It's a pretty good computer for 1080p gaming. I had some stutter and frame issues on gta5 and Battlefield one but i thought if i upgraded to 16gb everything would be fine. While the stutters did go away the fps is still not as good as it should be. I watched some Benchmarks on Battlefield 1 for example and he gets 90 fps on a 64 player game on Ultra, while i get 60-70 and drops to around 45-50 when many players are near. Same story in GTA. at this point ive tried everything, drivers, nvidia settings,OCing and the only thing that could be is my Hard drive i think. Can anyone comfirm it could be it or at least give a suggestion, any help is apreeciated

The thing is,the benchmarks i saw run the games on Ultra on the 3gb model and got more fps than me on the high to medium custom set. Also on gta the game tells you how much Vram approximately you use with your settings and it said about 2.3GB. what do you think?

What benchmark video is this? What CPU were they using? With Ryzen, clock speeds make a huge difference in gaming, also, Ryzen isn't going to get you quite as far as a high end Intel chip. If you have a B350/X370 mobo and a decent cooler I would recommend overclocking your CPU. Be warned though, you're overclocking may not go far if you have RAM running less than 2666Mhz. With 2666Mhz you can get a moderate overclock but you will need 3000Mhz to 3200Mhz to get really good overclocks. See how close to 4Ghz you can get, if you can get to 3.8 or 3.9Ghz on your CPU then it'll help immensely with your FPS average.

Also, was this benchmark video done with the GPU being overclocked? Have you tried overclocking your GPU? If you've never really bothered with overclocking before I can offer you the basics to getting the most out of your card.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tbA4T9pxRo The Battlefield Benchmark,as you can see he uses 3.7Ghz CPU clock while i use 3.6 so again, shouldn't make that big a difference and although the vid is Russian he mentiones ultra in the title, while i run quite lower than Ultra. Also I have the factory Overclocked version, I did try overclocking a little bit but thats a 4-5 fps gain, which is nothing compared to what this Russian comrade is getting. my ram sticks are all 2400Mhz btw. And here is the Gta one (you can skip to the gta part and in the description he mentions gtx 10603gb) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-E6xackvqZE

Also another pretty worrying this is im getting a really low GPU usage. I kinda forgot about that,my bad. Could that be the cause? Because my game performance should absolutely not be that bad. I have the NVIDIA power settings on prefer maximum performance, nothing is overhaeating etc etc. What could it be???

oh wow. ok, so your GPU usage when under load with higher end graphic settings at 1080p is not pegged to 99% like it should be?
If that's the case, then lets look into that.

First off, go into Windows Control Panel and go to power options, then once inside click on "show additional plans" and choose the "High performance" option then set the computer sleep and screen sleep settings to your liking. See if this is already chosen option and is set up. If so then we continue onward. If not, then change it and try your games out with rivatuner enabled to see the GPU usage when in full screen.

If it doesn't work or is already set to high performance then check the following, do you have a 500w PSU or better? Because if the card isn't getting enough juice it will hit the power limit and throttle.

If it is getting enough juice, then try doing a clean install of the latest nvidia drivers. A clean install option is available when you run the installer, be sure to select it.

Come back after trying stuff out and we can look further into why your GPU isn't getting the full load it's supposed to.

yes the power plan is set on high performance and my PSU is 600W. I did do a clean install of the latest drivers, but does that mean the old ones also get uninstalled? Because ive read that helps. Anyway, after doing that and putting Prefer Max performance on Nvidia settings the usage did maybe get a little better but 10% although im not sure whatsoever. The thing is it still hovers which results in these annoying framedrops. What I also did was update my BIOS and that gave me a message on reboot saying my ram was not placed ''optimally'' on the Mobo. After putting me on the optimal spots I gained a good 15fps. But the GPU usage problem still remains

your GPU not getting full usage is probably due to your CPU being overloaded. If your CPU is taking a bigger load than it can handle by a big enough amount it will keep the GPU from being able to be pegged. This is what we in biz call a bottleneck. Not only does faster RAM speeds mean more overclocking headroom on Ryzen it also improves the performance of Ryzen at whatever clock speed it's at. Run your games like you have been and see if the CPU is pegged at full usage the whole time. If it is then you have a CPU bottleneck at which point you will either need to attempt a higher overclock which will require faster RAM. If your CPU is not pegged at full usage then something else is afoot.

2400Mhz is not "more than enough" for Ryzen. That is the bare absolute minimum. 2666Mhz is the recommended minimum for more optimal performance with Ryzen and 3000 to 3200Mhz is the best. The speed of the RAM determines the overall performance of the Ryzen CPU at whatever clock speed you have it set to. If it's set to 3.6Ghz for example, the CPU will perform better with instruction sets from any application when you have faster RAM vs slower RAM. 2666Mhz will result in better performance from the CPU at 3.6Ghz than with 2400Mhz RAM because of how Ryzen works. It relies heavily on RAM performance to get the most out of it's infinity fabric. It's a fact that has been proven and talked about all over the internet.

But back to your issue though, you seem to have fairly low CPU usage that is far from it being pegged, which means that it's not the bottleneck for the GPU and the problem lies elsewhere.

Which PCIe slot do you have the GPU plugged into? it should be in the top most PCIe slot on the motherboard as that is the one that will give the best performance.

If it's already in that slot then go into Windows settings and disable any feature related to Game Mode.

Next, test the games. If the problem persists then try completely disabling game mode itself.
To do this go into the Windows Registry Editor by pressing Win+R and typing in Regedit and pressing the ENTER key.

Once you open Regedit on the left hand side navigate to
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\GameBar
Then inside the GameBar folder you should see an entry called "AllowAutoGameMode".
You need to set this to the value of 0.
If you do not see it then right click and empty space inside and create a DWORD 32bit entry and call it "AllowAutoGameMode" without the " marks and set it's default value to 0. Reboot your PC then try your games again.

If none of this works then come back and we can continue to investigate further.
