Hello, I have a 4 year old PC withe the specs of:

  • i5-4590
    Asus b85 pro gamer
    8gb ram (G.skill)
    gtx 970
    1TB HDD
    520w psu

My problem is that one day my computer wont POST boot anymore.
So the troubleshooting I've made so far is:

1st attempt (it worked!)

  • Reseat RAM
    Reset CMOS Battery
    Reset by jumper

2nd attempt (which is the symptoms went back again in other day)

  • Reseat RAM
    Reset CMOS Battery
    Reset by jumper
paper clipped my PSU (if my PSU is working properly)
I went testing with and without the GPU

I did not encounter any beep codes, except for one time only which is 1 long beep, 2 short beep which is they said that it has to do something with the video/VGA or whatever. And I checked that out, everything is plugged ok. Then after that, I had another attempt, there were no beeps anymore.

I did everything from what I read from the other forums and nothing helps.

I have no idea what to troubleshoot, any ideas?

Ok, so if you could fill me in with some more information on the success or failure of the second attempt (is it no longer POSTing or do you have to do this each time to make it work?). Also, is it no longer POSTing, or Booting? If it's not POSTing your screen will likely stay black, if it's not booting you should be receiving some feedback, i.e. Asus splash screen at the start.

For further attempts,
Do you have 2 sticks of RAM? If so, try one at a time to see if one may be failing. You can try to download Memtest86 and create a bootable flash drive to test the memory if you can get it up and running again.
You can buy a real power supply tester from online retail for less than $20 which can help you diagnose as well (I don't advise the paperclip method, nor does it provide much validity)

Given your beep code it's likely a RAM issue. If you have multiple sticks of RAM try the switching method, if you only have one then try different slots. Best practice for handling RAM is to wear a ESD strap (or for those of us lazy techs, ground yourself on some solid metal nearby before handling)

2nd attempt still fail and I forgot to mention that I did switching RAM and tried one at a time on 2nd attempt.
And yes, it's not Booting to motherboard's splash screen anymore.
I ordered a psu tester now and will attempt memory testing asap IF I successfully boot my computer

I will keep update after another attempt

Update: Computer went boot normally again with the working RAM I borrowed from a friend. BUT, this time it's getting weirder.
The computer went boot right?
So what happen is:
I let it On for 3 hours, I play game, photoshop, browsing and watched a movie.
Then I shut downed it and I sleep for a few hour.
I turn on my computer again if I see it's really booting normally again.
Then the problem went again, it wont boot again while the motherboard is turned on.
what I did is, I turned it off by holding the power button.
Then I let it off for a few seconds then I turned it on again.
Then it boot normally again then let it on for 1 hour.
I shut it down after an hour. Then turned it on again after few minutes. The problem went back again(it wont boot but mobo is on), then again I did the hold power button again then turn it on again.

tl;dr: evey time I turn my pc on, it wont boot then I have to hold power button then turn on again then it boot normally again. (This also applies with my old memory)

well, I already did that for many times. Symptoms get going back again and again, tho I can still boot it with the procedure I did from my previous reply/update

Edit: I ordered a psu tester already, might get that for the next 2-3 days, I will test my psu asap

Update: I manage to get my PSU tester yesterday (I'm sorry for late reply cuz, I'm busy at work).
Anyways, I tested my PSU with all pins, but I notice something on my 24 pins https://i.imgur.com/IiTf5KF.jpg
The instruction says I have to check these volts led (check image) are ON. I notice that -5V is not Up.
But the fact my PSU (Seasonic 520w bronze) does not provide -5V.
Is this ok? or what

-5v is optional for ATX, not necessary. Power supply testers can tell you if it's bad, but that doesn't always necessarily mean it's good so at this point that doesn't provide much more useful information. Still it's handy to have just in case so it's good we at least can say it's tested. Have you checked the motherboard manufacturer website to see if there's a firmware update available? Also, have you tried leaving the video card out for a day or two and seeing if the computer boots normally after power-cycling between long periods of time? And to be safe, also blowing all dust that you can out of the computer can sometimes help if there's some intermittent shortage going on.

Hmmm, I tried out taking my gpu out for an hour and reseat it. But it still won't boot.

I will try cleaning my pc then take my gpu out for a day or two.
