I'm trying to open the back of my Lenovo Thinkpad 13 bought new in 2016. It seems like the screws will unscrew, but not come out of the holes?? Is there a trick to get the screw to completely get out of the hole? I've tried continuing to unscrew them, shaking them out, prying out (gently) with screwdriver. ??

You definitely have options:
1. Pull up on the cover near the screw that is stuck and continue trying to unscrew. The extra pressure on the screw might be enough to get it past a stripped portion.
2. Epoxy/ super glue the screw driver to the screw head so that you can pull it straight up after unscrewing. Sometimes prying them puts too much pressure on the sides causing them to catch and strip it further. (Don't let the glue or epoxy fall down the sides of the screw. It should only stay on the screw head)
3. Drill out just the screw head.

Maybe read through this forum for other ideas: https://forum.thinkpads.com//viewtopic.php?f=2&t=81210

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure those latches are just what hold the case together absent the screws. They are the inside latches.
