GPU Crashing During Some Games But Not Others

Hey all,

I've been having an issue with one of my systems and I'm having trouble diagnosing it. This system has an EVGA GTX 970 FTW Edition. Unigine Heaven and Furmark as well as Overwatch, CS:GO, GTA 5, Dead by Daylight, Hunt Showdown and most others run perfectly fine on the system for hours at a time. However, during some games like Skyrim, PUBG, and Microsoft Flight Sim X, the system will crash to a blank gray or brown screen before the system restarts itself and the issue is resolved. Skyrim is fairly unique among the titles which have displayed issues since the crashing only occurs if I open and then close the ingame menus. I am guess that this could be a driver issue but it has persisted across a reinstall. Any ideas what could be causing this? I am not currently overclocking the card, and the card remains at below 65 degrees even during stress tests. The rest of the system's specifications are:

I7-3770k OCd to 4.5 ghz
16 gb g.skill sniperX ddr3 1866 mhz (4x4)
Asus Z77 Sabertooth
Thermaltake Toughpower 750w 80+ gold
WD Blue 500gb sata SSD

Solution

Before entering a game, close them down both, then try again.
Or even better, uninstall them, reboot your PC and try again.

MSI Afterburner and GPU-Z are both running.
