I'm looking into buying a refurbished PC. There are 2 options:

HP Compaq dc7800 - Intel Core2 Quad Q9300 @ 2.50GHz

HP Compaq Pro 6305 - AMD A8-5500B APU @ 3.20 GHz (3.70 Ghz Turbo)

Here are the results from cpubenchmark.net (click here).

Which computer do you think I should buy?

The Core2 is a much older platform, that CPU was released in 2008, than the A8. While the A8 isn't the best performer, it was at least released in this decade. Only problem is that since the CPU is FM2 you will only be able to upgrade it to higher end FM2 CPUs, not the FM2+ CPUs.

Without knowing what your intended use is, I'd pick the AMD. That Intel tech is too old for me to be interested in paying for it now. Keep in mind that AMD APUs of that era are not good for gaming. So don't buy it thinking if you just stick a 1060 in there you're ready for any game.

I'm not going to game on that machine. I just want a machine that is powerful enough to edit video (simple videos, by the way) and to handle basic programming (+ Visual Studio 2017).

Yeah, that is not possible since I am in Greece an not the US...

Also, I just want a machine that is powerful enough to handle basic programming (+ Visual Studio 2017) and basic video editing. Also, since I'm most probably postponing the purchase for Christmas, I might look for another available PC with in i3, since I will have more money.
