I was running my monitor 144hz for almost 3 years for good till NVIDIA latest driver.
while it was installing the driver, my monitor blinked one time then i got black screen i couldn't even fix that not even in the save mode so i had to rest the PC to be able to fix it. it only let me run it at 120hz every time I go to the control panel or from the display.I have the option to run it at 144hz but every time i chose it I get the same thing black screen. I did every thing rest my PC twice, update the windows, roll back to my old drivers, update the monitors driver and nothing worked any help ??

Just so you guys know, it's a known bug in the last few Nvidia drivers specifically with Benq 144hz monitors (zowie). I doubt they'll be fixing it any time soon though as 144hz monitor users are a small percentage of gamers and benq 144hz users even smaller.

The only workaround for now seems to be to run it at 120hz (unless you're fine with running a weird refresh rate like 143)

Seriously, can you really tell the difference visually? I would not worry. You should be able to roll back to an earlier driver somehow some way. I am not a gamer but I don't think your eye works at 144 hz. They "eye" and the brain puts together information differently than the monitor displays it.

I don't know if i cant tell or not lol but I did roll back to earlier drivers but still the same i even updated my bios and every drivers but still the same. it might have no difference between144hz and 120hz but hey man my monitor should run 144hz like it used it before I really spent a lot on money on my PC at least it should have to running like its suppose to right lol

Sounds like there's some issues with the GPU itself my 980ti did this. I'm thinking it's either a bad dvi port or display port. But to be sure have you switched out the connection cables to see if the issue continues otherwise if that's not fixing it then I can at from experience send the GPU in and get it fixed or replaced. If the warranty expired which I hope it's not you might be stuck on 120hz.

Rolling back drivers doesn't always fix issues since most of the stock drivers are the same, the vast majority of any new release is compatability and game optimizations. Instead, manually install a prior driver using Custom and on the second page choose the option for Clean Install. This'll remove any and all nvidia files and reinstall. Standard express install just checks driver versions, and if same or newer skips that install. Problem is, is if there is any corruption, it gets skipped over too.

So I just got my new display port from amazon still the same, it didn't fix the problem wasted 9$. I cant send it back or replaced it because I bought it when it first came out and that was like year and half. hopefully its not the card, my only hope now is waiting for the new driver to come out it might fix the problem cuz that's how my shit got fucked, if not Id just have to stick with 120hz lol

Go to nvidia.com/downloads for your gpu. Look for the list of drivers, ignore the latest one. Choose the 2nd or 3rd, something older than the brand new drivers. Download that file to your desktop. Go to guru3d.com and download DDU for nvidia to desktop. Run DDU, it'll go through safemode and a couple of boots. That'll wipe out any and all nvidia files and associations in your registry. You'll end up in a vga screen, a pain to navigate, which is why you saved the nvidia driver to desktop. Install that manually. So not choose any option to upgrade to newest driver or install GeForce Experience.

That'll put you back to exactly the point before you installed the latest nvidia driver. If there's no issue with monitor, cables or hardware then you should be back to 144Hz. Just as before. If you aren't back, then the issue isn't with the nvidia drivers, but with something else, which could be anything from the monitor capping vsync at 120, issue with the gpu and DisplayPort or even something as asinine as an in-game 120fps cap.

So I did everything you said step by step still didn't work out I know my cable is good because I bought a new one . I finally got it to run by going to NVIDIA Control Panel and customized the resolution so instead of running it at 144hz I made it run at 143hz and its all good now lol its running smooth just like before. Thank you for your time and help.

This whole thing is wierd lol. It'll run at 143Hz but not at default 144Hz. Usually electronics don't slow down, they work then they don't. Only thing else I can think of is Mebe a firmware update for the monitor. Windows updates can do funky things to pcie, USB, Sata sometimes and Creators Edition and the 2 major updates played nasty with nvidia drivers, so it could be something in the compatability with those. I'm grasping at straws cuz this isn't an error I've seen before that wasn't fixed by cord swap or driver updates.

I've had an identical scenario to you! During the installation of the Nvidia drive (411.*, meant for the new RTX cards) the screen went black and never came back until a reformat of the whole system, but afterwards, it's not running at 144Hz! Exactly as you say, when you change to 144Hz the screen goes black and says "no signal detected" and switches back to 120Hz! Rolled back everything and nothing has helped!

Win 10 Pro, i7 7700K, 32GB RAM, 2x1080ti, ZOWIE XL2740 144Hz.

Found my solution! It turns out that the Nvidia Control Panel had turned on "Dynamic Super Resolution" to a 2x factor on a global setting (under Manage 3D Settings)! Turning it off (1x) allowed me to switch the refresh rate to 144Hz and it worked in a fraction of a second! No black screen what so ever! Hope this helps others too.
