So, currenty in my pc is the socket 1155 i5-3330. It has been in my gaming pc since some 4 years ago. It has lasted till now with my gpu being upgraded but now an upgraded cpu is required. I don't have money right now to upgrade to my desired cpu being a 6700k with obvs a new mobo and ram. However. i thought about getting an i7 from that gen or hoping someone can reccommend me a better option? Thanks in advance, Matty.

The upgrade is too expensive for old tech. I highly suggest saving up a bit more to move on to 8th gen with DDR4. The chart below shows the available i7 upgrades for your motherboard:

Here is an example suggestion with the new 8th gen i5:

I see what you mean, but i can't play most games without having freezing issues, closing down etc. I was thinking of tgetting a second hand i7-3770/k (depending on availability) and then selling my i5-3330 to recooperate some of that cost. i don't stream etc. so i just need the extra oomph. for example the I was playing the Forza Horizon 4 demo, and on ultra setting and even with settings tweaked to minimise cpu strain I constantly got a 'streaming bandwidth error' which it mentioned was due to cpu. I can get an i7-3770 on eBay for about £100 right now, so its not too bad, especially when i can sell my current when its all working fine and recooperate a bit of that cost like i said. With titles coming out and ones that i already play,i want a fix even if its only for a matter of months really?

To overclock a 3770K you would also need a Z77 chipset motherboard.

The 3770 may help you:

But depending on your current GPU. It might actually be better to upgrade the GPU.

This is my thought process. Since i can get the obviously better cpu for not too bad of a price, i might. My i5-3330 is constantly reaching 100% so i was believing that an upgrade to the i7 3770/k should be very good for the meantime before a full system upgrade. My Gpu is a gtx 1080 so that won't be being upgraded for a fair while!

My GPU is a GTX 1080, so that stands plenty fine. I just need more CPU power, in modern day titles my CPU is reaching 100% and causes lock ups and crashes, hence why i was looking at the i7-3770. :)
