PC freezing while in game and only option is to restart

Hi,
I don't know where to start this thread so if it should be in different section and can be moved, feel free to do it. Now back to why I'm here. I started having this problem few months ago but it wasn't really regular thing. It usually took hours before it happened but now I can't play something without freezing and forced restart after 20 minutes. Weird thing is that WWE 2K19 for example runs well and nothing goes wrong. On the other hand when I start Divinity OS 2, I know I'll get mad soon. I tried to watch CPU's usage during playing but that doesn't seem to be the problem? Is it my GPU or something completely different? Btw. I know that my PC is far from great but until this I had no problems running what I wanted unless it was super-demanding, Thanks in advance

Case: Corsair Carbide Serie SPEC-01 red LED
MB:GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3P - AMD 970
CPU: AMD FX-8320
GPU: AMD Sapphire R9 270X
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 CL9
PS: EVGA 600B Bronze Power Supply 600W

In most cases, overheating is one of the main reasons why computer keeps freezing. Try checking the CPU because it is extremely sensitive to the functionality of the computer. Also, check the link below for more helpful reasons why computer keeps freezing.

If you run a program like Heaven does it freeze? You can use the program to monitor your temperatures before it crashes, if it does. If the temperatures seem fine you might want to see if a different power supply will fix the problem.

There are 2 most common causes if you see issues only during gaming:
- overheat
- not enough power
The next possible thing:
- software issues (driver, viruses, etc.)

If any of those 3 are not the cause, then there should be a hardware problem in your system a.k.a. something is broken.

I've tried checking the temperatures but they're fine so problem isn't in overheating. Power issue would be a thing if this problem started when I had this PC build but that was 4 years ago and freezing is relatively recent issue so unless that be problem after all this time I don't think that is it either. I've also tried downloading new drivers but nothing changed. That leaves onlu viruses?

PSU capacity de-gradate along with age.

Although it is not 100% accurate but there is a kind of thumb rules:
- Higher quality PSUs degradate slower under the same operational condition.
- Same PSUs operated with higher load will degradate faster than those with less load.

I just trying say that you can not exclude the PSU yet from a possible problem sources until you are 100% sure.

But yes, you can shift your attention to softwar issues for now :)

I've tried running that program and it froze when temperature reached around 70 but that should still be alright if I'm not mistaken?

Assuming that power source IS the issue, how would I know without replacing it with new one? Like with everything, I don't want to replace piece of hardware unless I'm sure it will fix it.

well, that is why I wrote you can shift your attention to software issues first.
Actually, software would be the first to check before you start changing your hardware.

Because, if the PSU is not the culprit than there should be another hardware issue.
Finding out which one is very tricky.
Along with your software checking also check your RAM and HDD/SSD health, just to be sure.

so I did virus check and it was clean so that also shouldn't be the problem...are there any good programs to check single hardware components to identify which one is failing?

If your power supply is 4 years old it is getting towards the end of its life and may be failing under load. You could try using HWMonitor to see if the voltages change when going under load but I am not sure if it will be able to show anything if it crashes when the voltages drop too much
