Will it be worth upgrading my cpu and ram?

Hey guys! i'm currently running a i7 4790 with some ddr3 ram to go with my gtx 1080. I'm not quite sure if my cpu is bottlenecking my gpu, so i was wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade to a later gen cpu with ddr4 ram, and if not, how much performance am I missing out on? Thanks a lot for all the help!

You would benefit well with a cpu upgrade. Get a 8700k to push for high frame rates. However, you would also need new motherboard, ram and maybe a beefy cooler and PSU

A few questions.
1) Are your frame rates consistently above your display's refresh rate (ie. No stuttering issues).
2) Do you have a high refresh rate display and your current frame rates are quite a distance away from what the display is capable of?
If no to (1) and yes to (2), upgrade.
If yes to (1) and no to (2), any performance gains is not noticeable > dont upgrade

well, I'm currently running a 60hz 1080p monitor right now, but I'm about to get myself a 1440p 144hz monitor in a few days, would i need to upgrade my cpu then, or would the 4790 suffice?
