So i'm getting a 2700x and a MSI x470 gaming plus mobo next week and i already have 3200Mhz ram can the board and cpu support 3200Mhz? Ram is g.skill trident 16gb 3200Mhz.

Ah, that makes sense. Depends on the motherboard manufacturer. What I'm wondering though, are there any *recent* (AM4) AMD boards that don't support either XMP or DOCP?

Outside of the main brands, don't think there's any recent am4 boards that exclude xmp besides Asus. Asrock, Gigabyte call it xmp and Msi A-xmp. Older Amd gens (Amd A88X Fm2) had both amp and xmp. I suppose in case xmp profile on the memory didn't work could use Amd's chipset to dial memory timings given that no memory on the market had jedec for Amp - as in Amd only memory.

Gigabyte for the FX line called it Eocp for a time. Haven't seem Amp for sometime, guess it's been replaced by xmp since all these board makers have xmp profiles anyway for their Intel boards i guess it makes sense keep xmp as a standard across both platforms.
