Hello so I was hoping somebody could help give some input on a very frustrating situation. I just recently bought a Samsung 55" NU8000 Display with freesync. With this Display I also purchased a Vega 56 GPU to be able to utilize freesync.

To make a story short I have been getting very strange behavior from the setup and I don't know if it's the Display or GPU causing the issues.

It first started with the Display not being able to properly detect the resolution on certain games causing it to think that there was no source input. To resolve this situation I would either have to restart the PC or reset the hdmi connection. I have changed some of the settings on the Display and I believe that this issue has been resolved but I'm not completely sure. But....

Then I noticed that every now and again when I would play Far Cry 5 I would get these weird graphical glitches I will post some images to show what I mean. I thought maybe by chance that RTSS was causing this so I uninstalled it and everything seemed fine as far as I could tell.

Then just last night I was playing Doom for about 1 hour and my Display went crazy.

I thought maybe it was the game so I alt+tab to the desktop and it still looked the same. So then I proceeded to try and change the source on the Display to my PS4 and the Display menu would not appear and the screen just flickered really bad. So then I did a hard reset on my PC and the Display was still doing it so finally I reset the hdmi cord and it resolved the issue.

So I guess my question is has anybody had similar issues with a Vega 56? Is this indicative of a faulty GPU? Did the GPU some how cause my Display to glitch out? Could freesync be causing all these graphical glitches?

I have noticed no image quality issues with the Display it's self. No lines, no color blemishes, nothing.

Please Help I only have a few days to return the GPU if need be.

Solution
That looks like a GPU memory fault to me.

Try underclocking the GPU memory by a decent chunk and see if it goes away, that'll prove it, If you can you could try overvolting the GPU memory, but that's a degree of control that is quite rare and could make the situation worse, whereas dropping the speed at the same voltage will be safe.

What 750w coolermaster psu?

I wouldn't be suprised if it can't power the system considering that the parts used in the gx series were not meant for longevity at all and it was pretty mediocre when it released. Replacing it definatly would not hurt and I would not be suprised if this is the problem or at least part of it.

If you can test your gpu in another system that has a good capable psu that would be great.

I guess I didn't realize a PSU could cause problems like this. I figured it would either work or not work. Sadly I do not have any other system I can test it on. All my friends use consoles only:(

Is there a PSU you recommend?
Is there a a way to check to see if this card is getting adequate voltage?
Can poor performing PSU cause stutters in games also?

What's the budget for the psu?

Unless you have a really expensive psu tester that puts the psu to it's max load and whatnot not really.

A bad psu can basically cause every issue imagineable. Which is why it's sometimes hard to diagnose why a system with a good psu would act up. However yours has a pretty cruddy psu from way back in the day and is showing issues with the gpu when the gpu starts pulling a lot of power so that's why it's a lot easier to lean towards the broken psu problem.

I've always wondered if my PSU was causing issues even in the past. I suppose it doesn't hurt to replace it and just see what happens. I just wish I had more time to test this GPU to make sure its not gonna give me issues in the future. My budget is $100 which I think is fair for a PSU.

After the major incident last night I did get on again later and played Doom at 1440p on ultra settings for several hours with absolutely no issues. I also stressed tested it with furmark for 2 hours at a max temp of 75 degrees with no issues. That's what is frustrating is the incidents seem completely random.

Is there a way to check voltages to make sure there adequate?

I'm gonna keep it stock and play for another several hours to see if I can get any issues and if I do I will try and downclock the memory and see if that does anything.

Thanks for all the responses so far....

It's very unlikey to be the psu, that shouldn't be the first port of call.

"13thmonkey" so when you say "memory fault" your thinking that the memory is faulty and needs to be downclocked, which overall means the GPU is faulty correct? I just want to make sure I completely understand what your saying.

Yes, but a way to test whether the memory is faulty, the fault being that it cannot function at it's normal operating speed and voltage, is to make the memory operate below that limitation, if it is stable and working at -200Mhz, then you can prove that this is the cause of the distortions you are seeing. You might find it is stable at -25Mhz, which if it is out of warranty might be acceptable to you, but I think once started it will get worse.
