So, I've had a Skylake build since new, Currently a Palit 980ti and 6600k at 4.5ghz, While this is good enough for now, I'd like to upgrade to a more modern socket 1151 CPU.
My motherboard is currently running on a bios from 2015 when the board was manufactured, Now getting back to the title, Firstly is it possible to run 7th gen CPUs on the 6th gen chipset? Some time in 2016 there was a bios update for my board which simply stated 'added support for the newest generation of intel CPUs', this didn't specify if it was 7th gen or possible further support for 6th gen CPUs, I'll provide a small build breakdown and a link to the BIOS revisions below, any support or guidance would be appreciated.

CPU - i5 6600k @ 4.6ghz
Motherboard - MSI Z170A Gaming Pro
GPU - Palit Jetstream GTX 980Ti
RAM - 16gb DDR4

Solution
Yes, you can run 7th-gen Kaby Lake CPUs on your Z170 motherboard with that bios update or any later one after that. 7th-gen is the latest you can run.
