Second GPU to fry! Any idea why?

Hey everyone! I've been having a weird/annoying problem with my PC recently hopefully someone can help me, would really appreciate it. So, I have owned my Gpu (EVGA GTX 980 TI) for 2 and half years, used on 2 different Motherboards. About 2 months ago, as I was playing rainbow 6 on Uplay (which I rarely do) and my PC randomly just turned off an hour in, which I thought was weird since that has never happened before. I guessed it was a Temperature problem, so I just left it off for 2 hours and hopped back on. PC turned on just fine, I reopened Rainbow 6 and almost immediately the same thing happened my PC turned off. So, I assumed it was not the temperature since it hasn't been running long enough to even get warm. But after the second time my pc changed. The LEDS on my motherboard now stayed on while the pc was off, and the PC wouldn’t boot anymore.
I started to troubleshoot since I had no idea what was wrong, I first bought a new PSU and that did not work. I then bought a new GPU and that did work, and I also realized that the PC boots when it doesn’t even have a Gpu installed, but If I did have my 980 Ti inside it wouldn’t even budge. So, I concluded that it was the GPU that fried. Luckily it was still under warranty with EVGA and they immediately sent me a replacement. (this was 2 months ago).

The replacement arrived, and the PC was back to normal, except the MB. The LEDs on the MB remained to stay on after PC was turned off, which I thought was weird, but I was happy that it was just turning on again. And now yesterday the same exact thing happened! I was playing a game on Uplay and my PC cut off and I knew it was happening and I didn’t know what to do. Opened it a second time and it turned off when I entered a game, and stopped booting after that whenever the GPU was plugged in. And I don’t know what to think, I’m so confused and honestly sad haha. Is it possible that I was just unlucky, and I got 2 defective GPUs? Is there something wrong with my MB that its frying my Gpu? Very unlikely, but just saying this only happened to me whenever I played a game on Uplay, but is Uplay doing this haha? I don’t know, I just want my PC to work ☹.

CPU- Intel I7 7700K
Motherboard-ASRock Z270 Extreme 4 LGA 1151
PSU-EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2, 80+ GOLD 750W
GPU- EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti
Windows 10

I would remove the CPU and inspect the motherboard for bent pins. Check the motherboard VRM area for bulging or leaking capacitors.

Are you using an non-standard adapters anywhere, for fans, or other hardware?

Are you sure you are getting the GPU card fully seated? A partially seated card might still work, but could cause some issues at some point.

It sounds in all probability like you have a faulty motherboard since the motherboard is the only common denominator. Changed PSU, changed graphics card, same problem, usually means what didn't change is the problem, which would be the motherboard unless there is more to the story.
