Greetings,

So I am looking to build a new pc. For this build, I am hovering around the 2k range with wiggle room of course. Currently sticking to 16GB of ram (2x8) and if need be, I can add two additional sticks down the line. For now I am ignoring the monitors since that I will seek advice on another time. The case I chose because, well I wont lie, I just think it is gorgeous. I am thinking of adding some lights inside but not going all out.

The parts I am most uncertain about are the motherboard and powersupply. I never know if one day might go for dual GPU along with adding additional hardware so I wanted to get a good amount of power but without needing something crazy like 1k watt or whatever. I was looking for a solid motherboard and I probably picked something way more expensive than I should go for, so advice on that is needed.

This will be my first build ever using some form of liquid cooling, for that I am quite new to. So I went with one that I believe is of sufficient size for my case and does not require tubing or anything too complex. I am going with a white theme here so originally looking for white-based hardware, hence the RAM.

I am looking for longevity with my system, and although there is a lot of debate with regards to the GPU, I will be sticking with the RTX 2080 (not the highest model, I placed this model down as a place holder since do not know which specifically RTX 2080 I should go for, even though I know many would also recommend simply 1080ti instead to save cost). The 8700k CPU seems the most solid and in all honesty, I am not sold over the newer versions but that is just me. For my gaming purposes, this CPU seems sufficient.

I have helped build PC for friends several times and always was jealous since mine is reaching the end of its life. So looking for this to last, let me know what you think and what suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Oh and on a side note, given black friday/cyber monday is coming, looking to perhaps getting some discounts on some pieces, perhaps the hard drives.

There's not much to say here. This build is top notch.

The only cheaper motherboard I would recommend eithout comprimising on qualoty eould be the Asus Prime Z370-A for 20$ cheaper.

And as for the PSU, perhaps the Corsair TX850M or RM750X for 80$ or the EVGA 750W SuperNova G3 for 75$.

But honestly, what you got is quite good honestly.

You coupd add a couple of Noctua fans for the case if needed. Or BeQuiet fans if you want a quieter system.

Going with 280mm instead of 240. Dropped ram a bit to a 3200 with lowered price. I chose a better case with more efficient airflow. Apparently the ssd was discontinued and so went with 860 instead. I was recommended the mobo and dropped psu to 750 in case I ever go for dual. Overall I think it is look better. if needing fans, that will be post build to see how it sounds and go from there.

True, but debating if in my mind, that would be down the line. And by then, may just end up with new psu regardless. I think I will stick with 750W on safe side. Thinking this might be my final build unless any noticeable feedback.

And alas after this, comes the monitor decisions

Didn't mean to down vote there, accidental click. That GTX 2080 is kinda overpriced. The Evga G3 is a better PSU, for only a couple dollars more. With some tweaks you can get a faster SSD, for storage, and another SSD to hold your games.

Personally, as you are looking to run at a higher resolution, I would save some $$ and go with a 2700x instead, for better multithreaded support.

Oh no worries, I actually upvoted the comment so it went back to zero. I have seen the G3 and I can go with it, plus I do like fully modular PSU. For the SSD, what would you recommend setup wise, like one that is faster, storage, etc.? With tweaking, I am not curious which you might suggest.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will splurge a little more and go for a 250GB 970 evo for the OS. This will be first time ever use or even installing an OS to one, is there anything special I have to do with it after adding it to the Mobo?

I have been struggling with CPU choices. I can't decide if I want to go with 2700x, i7-8700k or i7-9700k.

Yeah, from what I saw between the test, it really boils down to 9700k being bit quicker but also what you are using it for. Plus difference of hyperthreading and its utilization. Still think they should not have acted as if it is the new generation since still using coffee lake.

Although possibly not perfect, this is what I am thinking of going with. Unfortunately it wont be complete for a bit since the case has been sold out for a while and wont be in stock until next month.

And yes, going to be going with NVMe, so this will be first for me. Once parts ordered and on their way I can relax and breathe hehe

And by this does it mean 1440p at 144hrz?
