Hi,

This is the first time I am building a PC. I would like comments on what could be better and what is too much. The main purpose of the PC is to play and to render videos for Youtube.... and to have a nice computer :)

My son wants the NZXT Ninja case.. so although overpriced that is the one thing that cannot be changed.

Case: NZXT Ninja H700i
Mobo: Asus Maximus XI Hero Wi-Fi Z390
CPU: i7-8700K
CPU Cooler: PLEASE HELP. I don't know what to get
GPU: MSI GTX 1070 Ti Gaming
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB 3200
SSD: Samsung EVO 970 1TB
PSU: EVGA 850 Watt G+ or G2
Case Fans: Whatever comes with the case

Please let me know what you think.
Thanks!

If you do not OC the: be quiet! Pure Rock Slim, will be enough. And if you want to overclock i would recommend Corsair H series or the NZXT series. If your case already has 3 fans it's okay but some come with no fans or 1. For good airflow you need atleast 3 fans. 2 in the front taking air in and 1 fan at the back blowing air out.

If you’re trying to save money swap ya a Ryzen build. Or swap to that and get a 2080/1080Ti GPU with the money you’ve saved on the CPU and board. A 850W PSU is also overkill

Also would seriously consider not getting the ninja case. It’s a popular thing now but in 5 years you’ll still have the case and we all know how fast internet things get uncool or ostrisied.

Assuming he mainly plays games and a bit of editing the I7 8700k is a really good CPU but for the motherboard part i agree with LordVile you can find motherboards for 120 dollars or less that supports all your needs and getting a 2080 from the saved money.

I am actually an Intel person... I did think the 850W was an overkill but wasn't sure. I will look into something less powerful and more affordable.

About the Ninja case... I completely agree with you, but unfortunately, that is a non-negotiable :/

What is a good MOBO for the i7-8700K?

Any Mobo recommendation that is good for the i7-8700K?

Can I ask why you’re an “intel person” intel offers no additional useful features (other than thunderbolt which could be debated) whilst being artificially inflated in price due to shortages of 14nm. Also Ryzen has better support with the AM4 socket supported until 2020. Intel at current rate will go through another 4 chipsets by then.

For an 8700K id reccomend the best one you can afford as its rather toasty and the only chips you’ll be able to upgrade to is the 9th gen i7 and i9 which really require a high end Z390 board to get use out of them.

I can understand the case issue.

To be fair if you’re going intel an 850W PSU might be not such a bad idea as their current method for keeping up with Ryzen is just to throw cores at their chips which understandable ends up drawing a shedload of power. If rumours are true about Ryzen 2 having 12 cores for consumer chips not just ThreadRipper I can see an intel chip drawing in excess of 200W easily.
