PC crashed and won't turn on

I was in my bios and changed my CPU light from red to blue and the PC instantly shut off and I could smell light burning of plastic or heat. I thought maybe the power supply blew or something but I noticed my external HDD light and fan still on so it was still putting out power. PC won't turn on. I felt every component after the crash and everything was cool. Did I short out something in my mobo when I changed color? Shouldn't I be able to use the bios and change settings provided by them? Anyone have any clue what happened?

Thanks for your time,
Sean

Win 10, Intel kaby lake 3.8, 16gb ram, gtx 1050 I think, going off of memory here.

I was in bios,(pressed delete during boot,) and wanted to lower my fans due to getting some software to track temp and what not and my PC is always cool. While looking at fan speeds it showed color on the right so I was like heckin cool of course I'd like to change my CPU color to match all of my fans. I could choose options to make it strobe, heart beat and all that and a color wheel. I switched it to strobe to see the difference and it changed the way it lit up and then I just dragged the wheel from red to blue and it changed for a couple seconds, (I think the color just went white but I forget, it happened so quick,) and then the whole PC just shut off and followed with a feint burn smell.

Thanks for the reply, please let me know if you need more info.

This:

"getting some software to track temp and what not".

What was the name of that software and where did you get it?

My thought is that the software was buggy and failed to provide the necessary fan speed to prevent overheating. Or some misconnection or faulty connection allowed too much power to go somewhere.

Uninstall the software and go back to your original hardware configuration.

However the damage may already be done - especially if something burned...

Use a bright flashlight and magnifying glass to look for black or brown scorch marks or burnt/blown circuit board components. (Be sure to unplug PC while looking.) Check fans and cables as well.

Post what you find.

Thanks for the reply. To be clear, it was just a monitoring program, open hardware program or something like that it was called. That and msi afterburner that I did not run. Simply, since I had the means to check the temp I thought I'd adjust the fan speed and check later to make sure it wasn't running hot. Everything has "extreme performance" settings now a days and wanted to run fans in quiet mode if hardware permitted it.

The program did not control fan speeds, and I hadn't even the chance to change the settings because I was farting around on the mobo screen looking at their color options.

I will inspect the mobo for burn marks, I appreciate the guidance. What if the light bar couldn't facilitate a blue color and is only supposed to go red and when I asked the comp to make it blue it just drew too much power to try and make it happen? The light bar DID change color though. Idk what the heck.

I wish I could upload photos, oh well.

Thanks for your time,

I looked with a light and can't find any burn marks on any of the mobo. I haven't unseated the CPU and looked closer there because I don't really know an in depth amount for PC to rebuild it and also don't know if I unseat the CPU if it'll need a new coat of thermal paste and if so do I clean the old stuff off?

Do you know about a mobo boot switch to try that in case maybe just the power button frigged up? I googled it and some guy said to touch pins with a screwdriver and it'll boot it pre case but there's nothing but pins on this mobo?
