The Ryzen 7 5800X3D back in stock at Amazon and Best Buy.

AMD's new 10th-anniversary Ryzen 7 5800X3D is now available for purchase at Amazon at MSRP, a welcome relief for those who have been searching for the chip, only to find it being scalped at twice the MSRP after yesterday's launch. Given the intense demand, this stock will probably not last long.

If these retailers run out of stock quickly, you can also try your luck scoring the new chip at B&H or Newegg, but they've had only spotty availability in the wake of the launch.

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition is functionally similar to its predecessor, delivering top-tier gaming from a DDR4 platform with its eight cores and 16 threads delivering up to 4.5 GHz. Naturally, the massive 96MB L3 is the main attraction, powering excellent gaming performance for this class of chip.

The new 5800X3D was brought back into production to help enthusiasts upgrade DDR4-based platforms during the ongoing shortages of DDR5. We re-reviewed this chip for the launch, using the newest games, drivers, firmwares, and GPU, and while it is functionally similar to the original 5800X3D, AMD did have to make changes to the innovative 3D V-Cache to bring this processor back into production.

Our re-test found that this chip remains the gold standard for AM4 motherboards, squeezing out the most performance possible with DDR4. The $350 asking price is high relative to competing chips if you are building a new system, making other options preferable, but it is hands-down the best upgrade for those on an AM4 system. In fact, one of its greatest attributes is that it will deliver a competitive gaming experience while not breaking the bank to buy insanely-priced DDR5.

    I'd say it's worth it, I upgraded from a 5900x to 5800x3d a few years ago and the FPS gains were impressive. This CPU is obviously in huge demand I doubt the price will fall much snatch one if you can.

    How many FPS? Everything I have read says there is minimal FPS gain between 5800X3D and 5900X. Maybe it depends on the GPU it is paired with? I have a 5900X/4090. The only way I would switch is if my 5900X died. I think it also heavily depends on whether you are playing on 1080P or 4K.

    I'm in the same boat but asking myself do I really need to? I don't think I do tbh....not for what gains I'll get. It would be nice though. Might have to update your bios too depending on version....photographing your settings is a good idea here as everything will be reset I think. Now to put a spanner in the works....I was thinking...live with my 5600x till a future full upgrade & spend the money on a 3d headset like metaquest instead! Decisions decisions.

    Depends, will this let you stay with your current platform for a few more years? Is so then yes it's worth it.
