Elon Musk says xAI will increase data center capacity 7x by 2027 — targeting 10 gigawatts of compute, up to $500 billion in revenue by the end of next year

Elon Musk told employees of SpaceX that the power capacity of the company's xAI data centers will increase by 7x to 10GW by late 2027. If this happens, the company's data centers will bring the company some $300 billion – $500 billion in revenue per year, according to Musk. The claim comes as SpaceX's market capitalization dropped by nearly $570 billion in less than two months. Meanwhile, the combined performance of the cluster will by far outpace not only all supercomputers in the Top 500, but also all AI clusters running today.

Yes. I couldn't be more happy about this. Grok and the Grok ecosystem have quickly become one of my favorite things. Search engines going all the way back to AltaVista and WebCrawler were great tools but AI is quickly making them look like archaic relics of the past. AI is quickly becoming the hottest, coolest technological advancement of my lifetime. Most people have no clue how important AI is going to be or how widespread it's going to be in our daily lives improving all kinds of technologies.

There was about zero chance I would have subscribed to X for social media, or news, or the typical social media slop. Now I'm a Premium+ subscriber for the extra Grok access and benefits. I'm hooked, I use it almost daily and it's more useful for me than Google and it beats Google AI in some things already. Let's go, let the AI race continue and hopefully the competition makes them all better. I'm loving it, and it's only just begun to show glimpses of the future potential.

Oh yay, more power bill increases for the rest of us.

Tried to run some task on several major AI engines because all of them still make a lot of errors, often more errors than not. Grok in Expert mode surprised me. It finished more or less OK and in the error bars limits, but took 10x more time than Google Gemini. Looks like Google TPUs may start cornering GPUs. Anyone noticed that too?
    UPDATE
Just found Google issued new Gemini 3.7 which shows that it is 5x faster than Grok

So we’re just making up numbers now?

Also as AI doesn’t scale linearly with hardware that larger power budget would do barely anything to compute, plus China is rapidly catching up

One of the reasons I prefer Grok is the accuracy. It's also one of the reasons why it's slower because it does extra truth or accuracy checks before spitting out results. Grok is one of the newest AI models out there and one of the fastest advancing models as well. Google has been working on AI and putting more money into it longer than just about anyone else so it's not surprising they're often in the lead.

I'll predict right now that Grok is likely to be the winner of the AI race, or at the very least one of the leaders of the pack of AI models to survive the race. Most companies are in it for one thing and one thing only and that's profit, Elon has goals other than just profit and xAI is part of the overall picture so just like X he's not abandoning it if it costs him personally. The speed and scale of xAI growth is something almost no other AI company can compete with. Despite what people think of the space AI data center goals they will add even more AI compute to the already ambitious xAI capacity, and nobody will be able to compete with SpaceX there anytime soon. AI compute will also be side by side with the internet much of the world will be getting from Starlink and that AI, at least for some tasks, will likely be faster than anything for latency reasons alone if they interconnect orbital data center sattellites with Starlink or combine them.

    I read this novel.
    Didn't turn out well.
