Nintendo 3DS Users to Get Free WiFi from O2 UK

It's a good day for UK gamers with 3DS consoles. Nintendo UK has just announced a brand new WiFi partnership with wireless carrier O2. The deal will allow 3DS and 3DS XL owners in the United Kingdom free access to O2's hotspots around the UK. This includes hotspots at McDonalds, Debenhams, Pizza Hut, Costa Coffee, House of Fraser, Toby Carvery as well as public venues like The O2, Twickenham, Bluewater and the Central London boroughs of Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea.

You'll need the latest system update for your device, but other than that, you're good to go. Nintendo says once you're in range of an O2 hotspot, you'll be able to go online. The Nintendo Zone icon will blink to notify you that WiFi access is available, and you can log on at no charge and browse the web, play games online with others, access Nintendo eShop, receive software updates, and more.

"We're always looking at ways to improve the user experience for Nintendo 3DS owners," said Shelly Pearce, Marketing and PR Director, Nintendo UK. "This partnership with O2 means that gamers will now have access to all of the unique online features offered by Nintendo Zone in more locations than ever before."

Nintendo UK says its partnership with O2 is currently live in selected areas, but a full roll out is expected in the coming weeks.
