Amazon Cuts Price of Kindle Fire HD in Europe and the U.S.

Last week, Barnes & Noble cut the price of its Nook ereaders in the United Kingdom. Not to be outdone, Amazon is following in B&N's footsteps. The Kindle Fire HD has had its price cut in the United States, Europe and the United Kingdom. The price of the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD in the U.S. has fallen from $199 to $169, and those in Euro countries have seen a similar drop, from €199 to €169. The price in the United Kingdom is £139, marked down from £169.

Comparatively, Barnes & Noble's Nook HD was marked down to £99 from £159 earlier this week. What's more, the Nook HD+ is keeping the Nook HD company in the discount bin, as B&N has cut that to £149, down from £229. These cuts are billed as limited time offers, while Amazon has not specified how long the Kindle price cut will be in effect.

The Nook HD sports a 7-inch 1440x900 display and is based on a 1.3 GHz dual-core processor with 1GB RAM. The Nook HD+ features a slightly bigger 9-inch display and is capable of playing video at 1080p. It boasts a 1920x1280 display as well as a 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU and up to 32GB of storage space. The 7-inch Kindle Fire HD packs a 1280x800 HD display, 16GB internal storage, a dual-core 1.2GHz CPU, WiFi, and Amazon's Silk browser.

I think Amazon is feeling the hit of Barnes and Noble slashing their prices.

Wait so the B&N Nook has a better processor, higher resolution and is cheaper than the Amazon Kindle? No brainer there.

Thanks for the heads up - Nook HD+ with a 1080p screen for £149. It would be rude not to get one.

that nook price definitely looks tempting. but Im not really interested in the tablet discounts. hopefully these tablet discounts spawn some ereader discounts as well. nook glowlight or the kindle paperwhite have been on my wishlist for quite the while.
