Sony Xperia Z and ZL Smartphones Confirmed

Smartphone manufacturer's website confirms both devices' existence.

Sony has mistakenly confirmed the existence of two flagship handsets on its website, with official press shots depicting both the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL smartphones.

Speculation has surrounded a 5-inch handset named the Xperia Yuga, which is said to be the production name for the Xperia Z. The image above confirms the Sony Xperia Z (on the left) will be an Android handset, with the previously seen oversized power/lock key situated on the side.

The Xperia Z is rumored to feature a 1920 x 1080 resolution, a glass front and rear, a microSD card slot and an HDMI port. It runs on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and 2 GB RAM, accompanied by a 12-megapixel camera.

As for the Sony Xperia ZL (on the right), it's said to be the Japanese technology company's rumored Odin handset, which sports a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7227A CPU, an Adreno 200 GPU and a resolution of 480 x 320. It runs on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Sony is aiming to ship 50 million Xperia smartphones during 2013, with around 35 million units being sold in 2012.

  • Sony owns that corner edge design earlier before iPhone occurred. Those corner designed used to apply on Sony Clie PDA device during 2000 to 2003 era.

    i would like to know the screen size of the ZL, it has a AR 1.5 screen, i like it. i don't mind if its "low" resolution 480x 320 screen. sub 4" is good. maybe some screen manufacturers should come up and produce a 960x 640 sub 4" screen to fill the market.

    16:9, 1080, super large screen handheld device is not a must.

    where the hell do you get your information? ZL also has 1080p sceen, 1.5 ghz cpu and adreno 320 gpu

    The Z is the full spec'd monster buddy, the ZL is the low end model... doesn't have a 1080p screen

    The person who made this report doesn't follow the trending information or the so called source(s) and made a what we call in the Engineering sector a garbage guess on the Sony Xperia ZL. This has to be one of the worst reporting of facts from a noted and reliable souce of Tech information; Engadget. I as a Systems Engineer have to follow and research any all hardware and software that I or my clients might or may use. That if I were to report these same facts on the Sony XperiaZ and ZL that have been reported here on this site and knowing that more accurate information was easily and readily available I wouldn't be employeed. Try doing your homework before making so called Garbage guesses.
