Wikipad Gaming Tablet Specs Finalized

We first got wind of the Wikipad tablet way back in January of this year. Still in a prototype stage, it was touted as the first glasses-free 3D Android 4.0-based tablet with an attachable video game controller. Though we had quite a bit of information on the form-factor and controls of the device, we didn't have nearly as much information on what was going on under the hood.

In June, during E3, we got confirmation that the Wikipad would be powered by Nvidia's quad-core Tegra 3 SoC. Now, a month on, we've got a full spec list for you. VentureBeat has an exclusive on the specs, which include a 10.1-inch IPS display with 16:10 1,280 x 800 resolution. Despite the original glasses-free 3D plan, it seems it will be a 2D-only display. According to VentureBeat, the folks behind the Wikipad say future models may still have a 3D display.

Additional specs include a 1.4GHz Tegra 3 chip with a 520MHz GPU and 1GB of DDR2, at least 16GB of internal storage, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, a battery that's good for six hours of continuous play, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

As far as controls go, the Wikipad will pack an attachable video game controller, analog sticks on each side, a D-pad mounted on the left, four action buttons seated to the right, a set of speakers embedded into the controller at the bottom, and shoulder triggers at the top.

The Wikipad is still on track for release later this year and Wikipad President James Bower has promised additional details on the gaming tablet in the very near future, so stay tuned!

    1gb of ddr2?

You'd need at least 2gb for Jellybean.

I'm running Jellybean on my Nexus and it's smooth, responsive, and has 1 GB of Ram- not sure why you'd need 2 GB as normally I'm using less than half and haven't ran into any speed or performance issues with a number of games (GTA III, Dead Space, and tested various emulators).

Agreed, the 1gb on the nexus seems to be more than enough.

1 gig of ram is more than enough for most emulators and mobile games. if the price is right for a 10+ inch tablet i can see it doign very well

I doubt they dropped the 3D screen for lack of available 3D games and the power needed to run it at native res.
