Asus Outs $249 C100 Convertible ChromeBook

Asus released the ChromeBook Flip C100, a compact convertible laptop that doubles as a tablet. The C100 Flip is made of "lightweight" aluminum and features a 10-inch IPS multi-touch display and a battery that Asus claimed can last up to nine hours.

Thanks to the aluminum chassis construction, the ChromeBook Flip C100 is very light, weighing less than two pounds. The device is also quite slim, with a total thickness of just 0.6-inches.

Some convertible laptops have removable keyboards, whereas some have keyboards that rotate 180-degrees and then flip. Asus has opted for a less complex motion for the ChromeBook Flip C100: The keyboard does not detach, nor does it rotate. Instead, it can simply flip 360 degrees.

The 10.1-inch IPS panel used for Asus's ChromeBook Flip C100 features a WXGA resolution (1280 x 800) with multi-touch capability. Asus said the Flip C100 can track as many as 10 fingers at once on the display.

Asus' ChromeBook Flip C100 features a Rockchip 3288-C 1.8 GHz quad-core processor, the option of 2 GB or 4 GB of memory and 16 GB of internal storage. External I/O ports include two USB 2.0 ports, a micro HDMI port, a single audio jack and an SD/SDXC card reader. The Chromebook Flip C100 does not include a network jack, relying on 802.11ac or Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity.

The Asus ChromeBook Flip C100PA-DB01 (2 GB model) is available for $249, and the C100PA-DB02 (4 GB model) is priced at $299. Both versions come with ChromeOS pre-installed and are available now through the Asus eStore, Newegg and Amazon.

Well, I'll admit the whole Chromebook idea has stuck around longer than I thought it would. Good on them.

First off, I love my chromebook, it has 2gb of RAM and a haswell celeron and it is very fast. However, what is the point of a touchscreen? Everything is small there is nothing to touch.

It probably comes with 32gb of storage as well.

I have a chromebook, I installed Linux on it. I use both, depending on my need. Does everything a laptop can do unless you have a gaming laptop. Plays videos, does web and email. Youtube works perfectly, for what I paid, I win every time I turn it on.
