Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Finally Dated for March

Blizzard announced on Thursday that the expansion pack for Diablo III, Reaper of Souls, will launch on March 25 for the PC and Mac. Prior to the launch, a free update will bring a host of new features including a revamped loot system, an expanded Paragon progression system for max-level characters, and expanded social tools in the form of Clans and Communities.

"With Reaper of Souls, we're taking Diablo III back to its darker, deadlier roots and also giving players a new way to experience the game," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment. "In addition to adding a new character class, a new act, and tons of fully randomized new content, we're opening up the world so players are free to explore the game as they see fit, whether it's following along with the story line or charting their own course across Sanctuary."

As previously reported, the expansion pack adds a new fifth act, a new character called The Crusader, and an increased level cap of 70. The expansion also brings a new Adventure mode allowing players to go anywhere and slay anything. Also added are Bounties, the Naphalem Rifts, and The Mystic, a powerful new Artisian.

Blizzard also revealed on Thursday a Digital Deluxe Edition that will cost an extra $20 USD. This "bundle" will add an exclusive helm- and weapon-transmogrification recipe for players to distinguish their characters from all the others. Deluxe owners will also receive three additional slots, and a Spectral Hound minion to keep them company. Also included is a World of Warcraft in-game companion pet, StarCraft II portraits and Malthael-themed decals.

The company will also release a retail-only Collector's Edition, packing all the goodies that come with the Standard and Digital Deluxe editions, plus a full-color hardcover art book, a behind-the-scenes Blu-ray/DVD two-disc set, and a mouse pad bearing the impenetrable visage of Malthael, the Angel of Death.

Gamers can pre-purchase the expansion pack now for $39.99, the Digital Deluxe version for $59.99, and the Collector's Edition for $79.99.

You must not have played D3 recently then. It honestly is in bad shape and they continue to change things around, 180 and even with just the patch 2.0, its not as good as it could be.

RoS adds some new stuff but not a lot, and adds in features that should have been in D3 vanilla but wont be.

The way it is shaping up is that D3 will be a demo for RoS. If you play the PTR right now for Loot 2.0, you see all the stuff for RoS in your face but cannot access any of it. That's how it will be on release. Thus D3 vanilla is now a demo for the RoS expansion.

Honestly, I am excited for this. D3 pretty much destroyed the Diablo legacy, but this seems to bring things somewhat back (or remove unwanted features and restrictions).

The general gameplay of D3 wasn't bad imo, they just ruined it with a) AH and bad drop rates, b) useless difficulty mode(would have been fine had it not contained special drops), c) not very good level design (less random, but replaced that with nothing, add more caves etc.!) d) sucky leveling system (why must lvl60 be a desirable and easily reachable goal, which you later have to fix anyways by copying HG:L perks? I find it kind of funny how these people insulted HG:L devs and then copy them when they have the exact same problem)

edit: should add that the uninspiring unique items did not help, as they were neither powerful or really unique, while rare items should be potentially more powerful than unique ones, the player should always have a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction when seeing a unique drop, this wasn't the case

edit2: also D3 story was ridiculous and storytelling was childlike

$40 for one act is an utter joke. If it was $10 id buy it, maybe for 15, but 40 is just too much of a joke for me to bother. Half of the expansion are things that should have been there on release. Thanks, but no thanks blizzard.

For $15's someone can buy Skyrim. It's got better game play, music, graphics, and support for modding. I have to agree this sounds like it's worth maybe $10's max in fact it's closer to $5's.

Even then I wouldn't buy it after having bought D3 and seen what a mess that's turned out to be and I'm certain it's still a mess. I wouldn't play it if it were free at this point not worth the installation requirement to hell with suicide entertainment.

I'm not going to bandwagon and say d3 is bad. I never played d1 or d2 but I spent many hours everyday still playing diablo3 and I am pumped for ros
