Dell XPS 14z Ultra-Thin Laptop Rolls Out in China

For now the 14z is only available in China, but it is expected that it will arrive on these shores before Christmas. The notebook weighs about 4.4 pounds and comes with a 14-inch, 1366x768 pixel LED screen, as well as a slot-loading DVD burner. Dell promises a battery time of 7 hours.

According to initial reports the 14z will sport an anodized aluminum case that integrates Core i5 and i7 dual-core Sandy Bridge processors and can be paired with Nvidia GeForce GT 520M graphics units. A base model with 4GB of memory, a 500 GB hard drive and a 1 GB graphics card is offered for just over $1200 in China.

Since then The 15z sells between $1000 and $1160 in the U.S., but is priced at the equivalent of close to $1600 in China, we would expect the 14z to be offered for substantially less than $1000 when it becomes available.

Gimmie at least GT 525M or AMD 6490M graphics, and I MIGHT consider it. With the GT 520M, it might as well just have the Intel graphics and save battery life.

What happened to Intel investing money to lower the price on Ultrabooks? Or are these not "Ultrabooks"?

I really like the XPS line. Great display and audio. Probably the best deal in the category.

You obviously didn't have the Dell XPS 1710 with a crappy nvidia GPU, & look how poorly nvidia dealt with that, no support what's so ever & short changing those who they had to compensate after the class action law suit.

  • For the record saintjimmy, an i5 2410M with a GT520M can play Black Ops at 1920x1080 on the second highest setting, Ultra, with viewing range at max and all other settings ON, except AA and AF. That's pretty impressive for a dual core and a mediocre GT520M.

Since i've been nice today, why don't you see if you could fit that mobile GT520M processor right up your... :)
