'Gran Turismo Sport' Arrives October 17 On PS4, PSVR

Microsoft’s marquee racing game, Forza Motorsport 7, comes out in early October, and it looks like Sony’s exclusive racing title will come out around the same time. Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi announced that the long-awaited Gran Turismo Sport arrives October 17.

The game was initially scheduled for release last November as part of the lineup of titles that would support the launch of the then-new PlayStation VR. However, Yamauchi announced a delay, citing that the studio needed “more time to perfect GT Sport.” A select group of players then entered a closed beta version of the game in March.

The game’s page on Sony’s website reveals a bit more information about what to expect from the latest installment in the long-running racing series. The game will feature over 150 vehicles for you to try out, with the types of cars ranging from the everyday stock car to concept designs. As far as tracks are concerned, there are 28 different layouts spread across 17 track locations where you can test your driving skills. For PlayStation 4 Pro owners, Gran Turismo Sport will support 4K resolution and high dynamic range. The game will also support PlayStation VR.

Yamauchi didn’t provide other details about the game, but he said that more information on multiple topics, such as the campaign mode, creative tools, and even the car and track lists, will come at some point in the future. For a "real driving simulation experience" as Polyphony claimed, both GT5 and GT6 were disappointments when it came to realistic handling of cars and sounds. This is why I was so glad to see Project Cars, Assetto Corsa, and DiRT Rally go to the PS4. That's how handling (and visuals) are done boys. Most of the cars felt exactly the same with the only difference being two-dimensional speed and turning capabilities (and even the sound was similar).

The only good thing out of them was the online gameplay was fun and the weekly challenges were fun. When one can play a racing game with a hand-held controller better than a steering wheel, it's not a real driving simulation experience.

I guess this will be the first and last GT game for PS4 which is pretty ridiculous. People are talking about PS5 coming in between 2018-19....

1 GT game "probably" in one generation and it is not even a launch title!! What a joke.

I'm not talking about not being able to afford a wheel. I'm talking about PC racing sims vs. more arcade based racers, which both the Forza and Gran Turismo series are. Polyphony sold the GT series as a "real racing simulator" (their words) which it is certainly not compared to real racing sims out there. Go out there in the real world and try and drive a car around a road course with a specially set up controller in your hands vs. a traditional wheel and pedals and see which variant you get better times out of. I know the answer.

Want proof? The whiners who bought Project Cars and especially Assetto Corsa who had controllers and complained about crappy handling/controlling. That's my beef. If you want a real racing sim, you have to pay for it. That's just a fact. Yes, I'm a sim wheel/pedal snob. Been one since the early '00s.

If you guys want sim racing control on a gamepad, turn on motion sensor turning. People still don't know about this is what surprises me. Just explore the settings?
