Graphic chip shipments climb 41 percent
The graphic chip industry posted yet another strong quarter with a year over year increase in shipments of almost 41 percent. Of the 14.6 million graphics processors sold, 24.4 percent were mobile graphics chips, setting a record mark of the segment. Shipments of integrated graphics chip-sets for notebooks outpaced those of discrete (stand-alone) mobile graphics processors in Q1 05, showing sequential growth of 12.6 percent and annual growth of 71.2 percent.
Intel expanded its market share in the industry to a record 43.1 percent. Both ATI and Nvidia lost market share during the quarter.
